With The Kingdom of Man, Life In Your Way instantly reveal that the message of their music is still at the focal point of who they are as a band. But what is probably most exciting about the beginning of Kingdoms is that there is a marked increase in the power of vocalist Joshua Kellam. Perhaps refined in the downtime of the bands three year hiatus, his vocals seem to carry a much deeper edge, giving the entire EP an added depth that was at times lacking in previous releases. The Kingdom of Man itself is the most straightforward of Kingdoms as a whole. Following the norms of most modern metalcore acts, with a healthy amount of uplifting cleans (“Blind In Retrospect”, “Growth In Passion”), group chants (“Forever”), and breakdowns (“Forsaken Me”), Life In Your Way keep their musical prowess as a highly technical metalcore band to a low, while bringing melody and structure front and center. Lyrically and conceptually speaking, The Kingdom of Man touches upon the age old questions of life: mostly dealing with the purpose of life, the motivation to continue forward, and to learn from the past and not dwell in it.
