Like any journey, one without tribulations, turbulent wind and troubling waters, never sees a greater purpose. A journey that takes you through the storm is sure to show purpose, vision, greater healing and a greater depth in a relationship with God, if the heart is open to receive. The past few years had been a wave of storms for Laurie and her husband Scott, but the most fiercest storm was the one they faced while Laurie was recording her Spring 2010 CD "Tell The Story". While recording, she struggled with a mold infestation that was discovered in their home. It was caused by the poor instalation of insulation in the attic that made it difficult for Laurie to breath, not to mention hindering her ability to sing. Not only was recording physically difficult, but her heart was breaking while her son went through a terrible tragedy; losing a child to abortion, which would have been Scott and Laurie's grand child. Laurie expressed, "This was one of those things you never imagine you will ever have to face." A whole new set of songs were birthed from that time of healing that have been saved for a recording project in the future, but what is most compelling are the songs that birthed once it felt like the chains had fallen off for the whole family. "There will always be a sense of loss," Laurie says, "but there is also great peace knowing that heaven is our home and that this little life is safe in the hands of God."
Laurie says she just started to sing the chorus of the song "My Deliverer" around the house as she was cleaning. After a while, Laurie says she felt compelled to develop the song further. She explained that she always assesses what she is saying through the song once the words have been written, because it reveals what is being birthed in her spirit, or what is being poured out from her. "It's sort of like poetic journaling." "In my life, I can already see what the words of the song say." Laurie stated, "I have come out stronger, refusing to back down and taking what is mine; healing, freedom, deliverance and strength, as I lean on the faithfulness of my Rock, my Shield, and my Deliverer."
The picture was not pretty but God was doing something beautiful even in the darkness. It was later that the Lord impressed a vision and calling on Laurie to turn the song into a video that reflected the very message of the song. Their son who had experienced the loss of his child, agreed to play the part of the young man in chains, drawing on that very emotion, to reveal God's faithfulness and deliverance through the journey. It's a journey that he is still walking in and one that we all continue in, one way or another.
The song "My Deliverer" will be one of many songs on a worship CD that Laurie will release later this year in 2012.
