This self-titled CD was released in 1974. Many of the songs have a country twang to them, almost like southern rock... Some have compared the sound of this album to The Eagles' work. Many songs feature extended guitar riffs and solos. Because Hartman was a relatively new Christian at the time, his lyrics are very simple; there's not a lot to them.

Interesting But Great| Posted September 11, 2012
Petra's first album, 1974. If you are used to Petra's heyday of the 80's or any other time period, you will find this album a bit of a shocker. This album has a 70's southern rock sound, and very unpolished, gruff vocals. The lyrics are simple lyrics of new found faith. There are some great twangy rock moments on this, and some great guitar solos. One song (Lucas McGraw) is even bluegrass!
So if you like 70's country rock, give this a try. It was a cutting edge album in 1974 for the Christian music industry.
