Though only a teenager, Velasquez's voice is remarkably mature because she's been recording and on stage since she was only 10. (She's even performed at the White House!) Her wide-ranging vocal styles allow her to comfortably sing along to everything from the pop melodies of "Baptize Me," to the lush orchestration of "On My Knees," to the smooth R&B sounds of "Shelter." This is her debut album.

"If This World"--Jaci's first single (ever) will always be one of my all-time favorite songs...and it will always have a VERY special meaning to me. That being said, listening to this album as an adult, I'm not as big of a fan as I was when it was first released. Still, though, the lyrics are fantastic--On my Knees, Flower in the Rain...lovely songs...I just prefer a little more bounce to my tunes nowadays. The songs that are indeed "bouncy" are simply not my favorite....

The Album Doesn't Quite Hold Up After 10 Years...| Posted November 08, 2008
Though the album doesn't quite hold up after over 10 years, some gems are still present such as "If This World", "On My Knees", "Baptize Me" and "We Can Make A Difference". A good debut.

i love jaci velasquez!! she is a classic christian artist. Though old stuff doesn't even come close to how good her newer songs are , all of her music is good. !!!!!!!!
A Heavenly Album!| Posted August 18, 2008
This was one of my favorite cd's back when I was around 11 or 12. Even though it came out in 1996, it wasnt until around 2002 or so that I bought it. Many of the songs (On My Knees, If This World, Flower In The Rain, Un Lugar, We Can Make A Difference) I had already heard before on the radio. This is still one of Jaci's most strongest albums to date, as it reflects the best of what she's know for; whether it be her radio-friendly ballads (On My Knees), Latin influences (Un Lugar Celestial, Shelter Me), or her catchy pop tunes (If This World, We Can Make A Difference). However, this album isn't exactly perfect. Towards the end, the album seems to trail off, and the last 3 songs are a little bland compared to the songs before them. But it's still a solid album, and a great debut for one of CCM's most popular leading ladies.
