My Hope is Built on Nothing Less is the second single to be taken from Francis Blight’s New Skin for Old Song CD. The lyrics were written by Edward Mote(1797-1874) more than a hundred years ago and yet their message is just as relevant today. Francis’ aspiration is for these treasures from the Church’s lyrical legacy to be heard in a brand new way. The melancholy melody and the hopeful lyrics combine to speak of holding onto Jesus Christ in the midst of life’s struggles. Jane Jewel’s cello adds brooding depth to the song which CrossRhythms.co.uk describes as ‘a fresh, edgy melody.’ The song is already popular with fans of Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin and Indelible Grace Music.
My Hope is Built on Nothing Less was recorded and produced in Hackney, North London by Stu Reid.

This is a beautiful take on a classic hymn. If you know the song and are quite used to it, the lyrics stand out in relief in this new setting, they become alive in a different way. It’s a sensitive rendition that reminds me of the strong message of the song. Nice one Francis!
