The self-titled album “Sheena” was inspired by Sheena’s search for peace amidst her career and personal struggles.
After the release of her debut album, “Destiny,” she went through tremendous hardship and her faith in God was tested. She found confidence and boldness to overcome in Christ.
The album creation process started in June of 2014 when Sheena met with Chris Belmont, president and lead producer of JahRock’n Productions. Sheena had already established a working relationship with Chris when they collaborated on the songs “We are One” and “H20.”
Through conversations with Chris, the project grew into a full-length album, and she decided to make JahRock’n its home. JahRock’n writers, like Adam Qualls and Mia Hunt, helped tell her story. Chris and the production team sculpted custom beats to fit her vision and the album’s emotional tone. Sheena oversaw each step in the process. An outflow of raw creative energy drove the work, and the bulk of the album was completed in 3 months.
This album communicates a new version of Sheena, one that went through the fire of struggle and emerged empowered. The song “I Win” is a testament to the God who truly kept her through the storm. The song “So Amazing” celebrates devotion to God and God’s unending love. The song “Beautiful 2 Me” explores the world’s influence on God’s children, and how we need only to look in the mirror and remember we are made in His image.
This album is an introspective look into Sheena’s heart. It’s Sheena’s hope that it will show that though the trials in life may break and confuse you, God will not forsake you.
