A song of reflection and contemplation straight out of Zephaniah – “Never Alone” speaks truth God’s love for us and gives encouragement to the downtrodden.
Jason Whitehorn Releases New Single “Never Alone” Song releases December 24, 2016
Indianapolis, IN— Jason Whitehorn — Singer and songwriter Jason Whitehorn left his music career in country music nearly twenty years ago to pursue a calling to write songs for the collective church. Today, his first single to embark on a 2017 EP releases to lay the foundation for a new journey. “Never Alone” has become an anthem for trials, and tribulations in his own path. It is a single that he hopes will resonate to others looking to connect with God in a real way.
“I wrote this song out of some deep personal experiences where I really struggled in asking God ‘where are you in this?’”, Jason remarked. “My wife had been reading in Zephaniah so I started re-reading it over and over again. I pictured the reality of God singing over us. What song would He sing?”
Jason said it was a tender moment reflecting over the crucifiction, and his own mother’s death that caused him to make the most tender connection.
“I was still hurting because my mother had passed suddenly. I couldn’t understand why this had happened. I kept asking God ‘why?’. Then I remembered Jesus on the cross having his own questions of His Father saying ‘Oh Lord, my God! Why have you forsaken me?’ I asked myself ‘If God would have audibly answered His Son in that moment – what words would He have said? What song – as in Zephaniah – would He have sung over Jesus?’ I felt that the answer to my question – and Jesus’ would lovingly have been answered by the same sweet words: ‘Child, you are never alone’. I wrote those down in my journal and picked up my guitar.”
Jason originally released the song as an acoustic version with his daughter singing background vocals in June of 2016. Then, in late November, the song became part of a new EP project for Whitehorn called As Long As I Have Breath due out in 2017. The single was tracked in a studio on historic Abbey Road in London. Matt Osgood of Worship Song Recording produced and arranged the instrumentation.
“I don’t think I would have ever said ‘I’m going to record a worship EP on Abbey Road’…but it is pretty cool to do so,” said Whitehorn of the venture. “Matt and his team have done an amazing job and were such a blessing to work with.”
Jason hopes the single will be used to give hope to people in all walks of life.
“I’ve been amazed at the response so far. I’ve had parents of terminally ill children tell me how much they needed to hear it. The truth is – we all need the message of it. There are messes. Our stories may all be different…but His song is the same. ‘Child, you are never alone.’
The song is available on iTunes, Amazon, and most major distribution. “Never Alone” was written by Jason Whitehorn and Brent Milligan on Worship Storytellers / REST Music.
