Unconventional yet catchy sound of Judah Band is back! | Posted March 19, 2020
There is no secret to readers that I love Judah Band. They just go for it in terms of taking risks and in the genre of Gospel music, there are those who really do not appreciate those stepping out of the box. Thankfully, The Hawkins Family, The Winans, Commissioned, Kirk Franklin and more have stepped out to break the musical molds. Young artists such as Jonathan McReynolds and Judah Band continue to do just that today. Judah Band continues to shine on their latest, Hush EP.

What it Sounds Like:
“Bless His Name” ft. Cierra Cantrell & Darnell Williams gets things jumping right out the gate. This retro beach party jam meets Urban Praise ditty is the perfect hook to draw folks to the Hush EP.

I also cannot get enough of “Wait and See.” This is such a feel-good song that is all about faith and keeping a faithful expectancy for whatever God has in store. Verse, “sunny” vocal arrangements, lyrics, all accented by the guitar and the tag, "Just wait and see." This is a good one!

Although the EP has the usual quirky and eclectic music that we have come to expect from Judah Band, they are still worshipers. "I Will Praise" is such a wonderful song of adoration that builds and builds; hopefully worship leaders will hear this and this to their song lists.

Spiritual Highlights:
For a group like Judah Band, some could get lost in their daring musicianship, creativity both musically and visually. However, listen to the whole Hush EP and one will NEVER mistake this for anything but Good News music with a twist. Christ is magnified.

Best Song on the Record:
“Promises" ft. Samantha Howard is my favorite song on the record! It is upbeat Bluegrass and Gospel all at once. The title says just that. All that God has promised will come to pass and that He will never leave us alone. Ms. Howard’s jazzy contralto bodes well in the midst of a song that fits in a Crowder set in terms of style.

For Fans Of:
Deitrick Haddon and Voices of Unity, Maverick City Music, Myron Butler and Levi

Final Word:
2020 has been a TOUGH and STRANGE year so far. Groups like Judah Band are so needed and appreciated. Hush EP is another winner for Judah Band and I cannot wait to see their live performances after all of the lockdowns, etc end!

Listen on Apple Music or Spotify.
