Gospel Meets House Worship| Posted July 13, 2020 What You Need To Know Maverick City Music is a community of friends, worshippers, and songwriters. Their songs are born from songwriting camps designed to create space for worship expression, creativity and to break barriers between the Gospel and Contemporary Christian genres. Their albums capture the fruit of these fellowship and writing gatherings, offering a fresh sound of worship. Maverick City Music releases the third installation of their live worship albums with Maverick City Vol. 3, Part 1.
What It Sounds Like
Maverick City Music brings an authentic passion and unique sound that is so refreshing to worship music. Not only is each song led by an incredible vocalist and engaging worship leader, but the community dynamic they bring of pursuing God together as a team is evident in every worship moment on the album.
Sonically, Vol. 3, Part 1 combines the best stylings of Gospel and Acoustic/House Worship. The album features collaborations with some beloved worship leaders such as Bethel Music's Steffany Gretzinger ("Thank You") and Amanda Lindsey Cook ("Lean Back," "Closer"), and Chris Brown of Elevation Worship ("Have My Heart").
Spiritual/Lyrical Highlights
A close friendship with God, trusting in who God is and what He's promised to do in our lives are recurring themes on the album. The lyrics remind me of the kinds of intimate prayers and songs of worship David and others expressed to God in the Psalms through all seasons of life.
Best Song On The Record
"Man of Your Word" is a standout on the record. It's light-hearted and joyful in musical arrangement, but not lacking in depth when it comes to message. Musically, my favorite aspect about this song is that it opens with a sweet melodic line on bass guitar, giving an instrument that's usually more in the background a chance to shine. As the lyrics proclaim trust in God's character and promises, the song gives us a great example that you can worship Jesus, declare truth, and have fun at the same time.
Final Word
You can't help but be drawn into worship and encounter with God while listening to Vol. 3, Part 1. With this album, you'll not only walk away with some new songs for your worship time with God, you'll walk away with a renewed value for the special way God makes His presence known when His people pursue Him in worship together.
