Allan grew up in the Faroe Islands and now lives in Northern Ireland. This is a pleasing album of keyboard-driven soft pop songs of devotion to the Living God. I particularly liked "Believe" with Allan's voice rising to an effective falsetto on the chorus and the stark yet powerful phrase "And you threw it all away" making considerable impact as the song builds with help from such session-seasoned accompanists as Mark Edwards and Dan Wheeler. Almost as good is the poignant ballad "Humbled" with its images of the beauty of God's creation while later on the powerful "Special" has lyrics that are. . .er. . .special ("I see you there, drowning in self-pity/But pride has kept you floating in a sea of bitterness"). Also well worth hearing is Allan's take on hymnody. Despite being over-recorded, the hymn "Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing" benefits hugely from a lilting Celtic arrangement. Producers Trevor Michael and Dan Wheeler clearly weren't wasting their time or their considerable talents with this songsmith. 'Going Home' is an album every bit as good as most record company releases and if your tastes reach to gently melodic songs with inspiring lyrics, I reckon you should search out Allan's impressive set of songs.
