The last semester of my second senior year in college, I was invited to play for the BUX Island Party at Texas A&M. Craig Weaver and I did a little two-man show, and it went okay. There was an up and coming band that followed us on the bill; a group of ridiculously talented hippie-folksters known as Caedmon's Call. After the show, they came over and invited us to do a show with them that August. I figured if I was going to share a stage with pros like them, it was time for me to have something to sell besides the homemade cassette tapes I'd been pushing. So I took out a small loan and went to the studio. I know that doesn't sound like an exceptionally spiritually way to make a record, but there you go. Anyway, Something by Sunrise is very acoustic, very amateur, and very folk-pop. Hey, I was 23! Just a pup. All things considered, I think it's a decent first record. If you're not convinced, here are a couple of reasons to check it out. First, it has sold over 7000 copies to date. Second, it features Cliff Young (lead singer of Caedmon's Call) and Derek Webb, who went on to become one of the best songwriters in Christian music. You can hear them on track #2 and track #6. Also on the record are Craig Weaver, Andy Gullahorn, and Michael Prince, who is now my eye doctor.
