"I believe the Spirit sometimes leads us to songs we need to write and my new single, Our Father, was very much like that. I was setting out to write a song based on a prayer I had written years ago. It wasn't based on any particular scripture, but whenever I would sit down to write, Matthew 6:9-13 (The Lord's Prayer) kept coming to mind. This compelled me to put this perfect prayer to music.
I had a dream the night I began writing Our Father. There was a woman standing in the back of a church singing a song. She was worshiping deeply, waving her hands in worship, but also conveying the message to me, that I needed to pay attention to the song she was singing. When I awoke from the dream, her song was ringing in my ears, and this became the basis of the chorus in Our Father.
Sometimes the Lord makes it very apparent when he wants me to pay attention and meditate on His Word. This contemporary composition is fun and easy to sing, and has helped keep The Lord's Prayer in the forefront of my mind. It really is the perfect prayer. I hope it blesses other listeners in this way also.
On a fun note, when I completed the song and was in Nashville to record it, at that very same day I was invited to lead worship for an online prayer night for my church. This special event the leadership had planned was to be dedicated entirely to looking deeper at The Lord's Prayer... and they didn't know about the song yet when they asked me to lead. He blessed us with His perfect timing.
I believe this song is timely as every human being is navigating a tumultuous time right now. My hope is that Our Father will bring listeners the peace that passes understanding and that He would give each of us our daily bread, and sustain us through these days."
