Blanca's third studio project, The Heartbreak And The Healing, offers two sides of the same story—the hurt and the redemption. Written in the wake of a painful divorce, the artist cracks her heart wide open on the new 14-track collection that showcases her powerful voice and transparent lyricism.
A diverse fusion of pop, Latin, Hip-Hop, and Gospel, the full-length effort follows the Christian pop artist on a journey of self-discovery as she rises from the ashes stronger and more empowered. This album is loaded with positive grace-filled messages of hope that address the pressures of life. Blanca understands that her identity only comes from her relationship with God.
What It Sounds Like
“The Healing” is an engaging song with Blanca’s passionate vocals setting the tone for this exceptional album. The artist has a habit of dropping pop and worship songs that are deep in meaning. The songs on this album are no exception. Many listeners can relate to the music's meaningful messages. Standouts include the catchy pop songs “New Day,” “Even At My Worst,” and “Bring You Home.”
Spiritual Highlights
Blanca has consistently impressed me with her mature faith and sincere desire to serve Jesus. You'll be blessed by these powerful songs with convicting declarations.
“The Healing” (featuring gospel artist Dante Bowe): "'Cause I can feel Him rising on the inside/A fire burning wild and bringing me to life/My God is so much more than just a feeling/You are my healing, You are my healing."
“New Day:” “Don't need to worry 'bout tomorrow/He's got a plan and it is good.” These lyrics are based on several biblical truths, including Lamentations 3:22-23 and Jeremiah 29:11. Whatever struggle or depression you're facing, know that God is with you, always.
The comfort and rest offered by Jesus are captured in “Even At My Worst.” Blanca beautifully depicts the message of identity that we need to hear, “Even at my worst, You love me/You wrap Your arms around and You hold me close/Even at my worst, You give something I don't deserve/You love me even at my worst.”
Best Song
“New Day” is best described as an upbeat, empowering anthem that listeners can sing over themselves against fear, worry, and anxiety. Blanca sets the tone with the opening lyrics, “Don't need to settle, I'm on another level, yeah/I'm done with feelin' low, don't take it personal/This life's a miracle.” Musically, the song builds to match the intensity of the lyrics and if you like “Real Love,” this song also has a striking message that stays with you throughout the day.
This song is an excellent companion to sing over your life. The moving musical bed of “Even At My Worst" takes me on an emotional journey that causes me to excitedly sing along with the stirring lyrics every time I hear the song. “Bring You Home” is another standout ballad.
My favorite song on the album is “The Healing.” I’m moved by the lyrics, “You're right here by my side/If I'm going through hell, I'll be alright/I'm standing on what You promised me/Yes, I believe this is true/That every time You'll see it through/I know I'm safe, You never leave.” With everything we’ve gone through these past two years with COVID-19, this song provides a glimpse of the healing touch of God.
I love Blanca's intentionality and complete focus on God's provision in her life. She is a gifted singer/songwriter with a big voice--dynamic, yet intimate. These songs have biblically based lyrics that poignantly capture life's simple yet vital messages. I'm engaged by the emotional vocals and the prayerful lyrics found in these sacred songs. Blanca’s vocals will soothe your soul, and the vertical lyrics will direct your attention and focus on Jesus. Several personal songs melt my heart, especially “Even At My Worst,” “Bring You Home,” and “The Healing.”
If you like female singers that make you think while you enjoy their catchy and empowering songs, The Heartbreak and the Healing is for you. This is a solid upbeat pop album with positive biblical messages which is a great alternative to mainstream pop music. It is easily one of my top pop albums of the year.
