Matthew Twenty-Five [edit]
by Seventh Day Slumber | Genre: Pop/Rock | Release Date: November 30, 1999

Matthew Twenty-Five is Seventh Day Slumber's first album, released on Afina Records in 1999. The album contains 12 tracks, with 11 songs and the 12th being lead singer Joseph Rojas' testimony. The album is the only to contain the band's original lineup of Rojas (vocals, guitar), Evan Weatherford (guitar), Josh Schwartz (bass), and Adam Witte (drums). The album's sound is very similar, in many instances, to Pearl Jam, Hootie and the Blowfish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Creed. Most songs have an acoustic guitar paired with grunge-y, and at times bluesy, electric guitar. The bass is very prominent in the mix of many of the tracks as well. All in all, it is a mid-tempo, grunge-centered rock album to the core.

A good solid frist release for this band. This release has a strong acoustic backdrop, but mixes it up well with some harder edge guitar work, some Red Hot Chili Peppers funk, and at moments reminded me of The Counting Crows. I liked many of the songs on this CD upon first listen and think it shows a lot of raw talent. It seems very raw, honest and straight forward concerning the struggles of life and the need for a savior.

Not their best work. I like a couple of songs, but overall i really did not care for this cd. I recommend their newer stuff other than this. I rally like their worship cd!
