"One of the hardest things to do for many people is to contend with the obligation to smile when they no longer feel like smiling. To feel the pressure to uphold a fake image that's not in line with our true feelings and true reality," Matt Sassano shares. "Some of us walk around with a black cloud day in and day out, walking around as unpaid actors in our own lives. And that's especially true for people who deal with domestic abuse. I can say from experience that if you've dealt with this, maybe sometimes you don't know what to call it, you've been desensitized to it. You know something's off, but you're so used to just playing a part and concealing your true feelings."
