Picking Up The Pieces is the third album released by Seventh Day Slumber, released in 2003. The album is more or less a return to the sound of their first effort, but driving the electric guitar a bit more and having the acoustic guitar be not as prominent. The album's sound is very similar to that of Creed and Grammatrain, with a grunge-rock focus. The album contains 10 tracks, many of which are songs from their second album Freedom From Human Regulations redone and made faster paced and with a cleaner sound. Those songs include Candy, My Struggle, Innocence (titles Untold Stories on Freedom From Human Regulations), More, and Something. There is also a cover of When The Children Cry by White Lion. This leaves only I Know, Running Away, Spiraling, and the title track as the originals found on this record. The album was remastered and re-released with 6 additional tracks, all remastered versions of other older songs, in 2005 on BEC recordings.

This release struck me as a very raw and gritty high-energy release from Seventh Day Slumber. It transitions from the bands first two releases that had a stronger acoustic element and instead comes out of the gate with a very strong edge that it retains throughout. The songs are very catchy and very well done, with many of the songs repeated from the bands earlier releases, but re-done in a hard rock style. The only negative thing about this release is that it has been replaced with an enhanced edition with extra tracks that would be a better purchase due to the extra content.

I LOVE this cd. It is one you can't bear to take out of your cd player- and when you do, you can't get it out of your head!! It's awesome!
