With one listen to the music of Tenth Avenue North, it becomes obvious that songwriter Mike Donehey and his bandmates have a gift for expressing truth in a way that simultaneously educates, enlightens, and entertains. They are as much teachers as artists, demonstrating this through their intellectual, yet vulnerably accessible songs that echo the heart of the human condition and the hope of the risen Savior.
"Tenth Avenue North's melodies are memorable and the musicianship is taut and inventive, but it's Mike Donehey's incredible lyrics that literally moved me to tears. He has an uncanny ability to put words to the hopes, fears, dreams, and struggles we all carry in our hearts and on our shoulders," says Billboard Magazine's Deborah Evans Price. "To say this band is going to be 'the next big thing' feels like an understatement."

"Could the maker of the stars, hear the sound of my breaking heart?"| Posted March 06, 2011
I remember the very first day I heard Tenth Avenue North on the radio-Their song Hold my heart was playing. I then started crying-I could completely relate to the lyrics.
I then bought their CD, Over and Underneath, which is one of the most amazing CDs I've ever heard.
I then listened to it track by track, my heart being shaken in a different way for each song. When I listened to their song Times for the very first time, I couldn't help crying. The lyrics are SO moving-That song totally impacted my life in so many ways. The words are very.. In your face. (You know what I mean?) They just hit you like a load of bricks. Lovely tune, awesome lyrics. By Your Side is also AWESOME. Probably one of my very favorite songs. Also, a lovely, catchy tune, but awesome lyrics. These lyrics, also hit me pretty hard. What I was going through the time I listened to the song, really put me at peace. It still does. God will be BY OUR SIDE wherever we fall. He's ALWAYS there. No matter what. So, this song really put that into perspective for me.
These guy's are really amazing. You can tell the songs come straight from the heart.
Over all, AMAZING CD. Tenth Avenue North is an awesome group. Highly recommended.
Over and Underneath - Tenth Avenue North| Posted May 09, 2010
Tenth Avenue North's major label debut is really a treasure, with moving lyrics and stirring melodies that clearly indicate this band is off to a great career. The first half of the album is somewhat more upbeat, with lead single “Love is Here” to start things off, followed by “Lift Us Up to Fall”, a strong Praise and Worship track with a great chorus. “By Your Side,” a personal favorite, slows things down a bit and is lyrically deeper than the other two, telling how God will never leave our side, from His perspective. “Hold My Heart” and “Times” brings out more of the band’s serious side, while “Break Me Down” is another stand-out, featuring lead singer Mike Donehey’s very Jon Foreman sounding voice. While the album is not perfect, and this may not be ground-breaking material, all of the songs are above average for a such young band and show that these guys are the real deal. So, sit back and enjoy this great album, and look forward to their sophomore release! ~ Christian Lingner

I really loved this cd! The lyrics are very touching, and the music is clean and does not overshadow the vocals. I will definitely be looking for more of their music in the future. Can't wait for the next album!

hits you where it hurts| Posted November 29, 2009
This is such an amazing album, it helped me through so many rough times and even when i am feeling a little down, the spirit of christ is so in there that i feel jesus's presence in every song. My favorite is Times, its the part where it talks about where you have fallen and where you have been and he is under our shame and in the storm and he will keep us by his power alone!!!! so amazing because its true, we all fall hard and in the most undesirable place and the things we have done and sometimes still do that cause us shame but He is there in everything, around everything, above, below, in. we cannot escape it even if we try and believe me i have tried. its all about Jesus and this album is that.
If I were trapped on a desert island, I'd want this CD| Posted October 26, 2009
"Over and Underneath" is a striking album that separates Tenth Avenue North from other artists in the music industry. The lyrics are deep and powerful, showing the love-driven heart of the band. This album has helped many I know feel the embrace of our Father. This is by far the best album of 2008.
Tenth Avenue North is the road to the kingdom of God| Posted October 21, 2009
This album is such an amazing milestone in Christian music. I think this is one of the most spiritually life-changing albums that I've ever listened to in my life. Besides Leeland, Tenth Avenue North is one of the only bands that digs deeply in a relevant way into the heart of God and the heart of mankind. Every song is crafted into a lyrical masterpiece that stirs my heart into worship and thought about things that really matter. It doesn't matter how good or how bad the musical quality is... that's just the envelope that delivers the real "letter" of the lyrics in such a great way! I recommend this album to each and every Christian on the planet... also to non-Christians as well. This album could be the sole Christian album that might be able to bring someone to Christ as their savior. Thanks Tenth Avenue North!
