A slate of thought-provoking lyrics and hearty neo-grunge riffs powered Kutless' fourth studio album to stand out above a host of other melodic rock/metal offerings in the contemporary Christian world. It is a balanced and complete record, one that doesn't sound too familiar, worship too directly, or rock too hard. The quintet still spends plenty of time thumping on monolithic guitars, but there is also a well-developed balance point where mid-tempo numbers like "Changing World" take their turn in the limelight. As on previous efforts, the lyrics put social consequences, relationships, and world situations under a microscope and reveal new, intriguing insights. Jon Micah Sumrall has one of the most soothing rock voices out there, as evidenced in the reflective power ballads "Smile" and "Promise of a Lifetime." Unlike too many of its contemporaries, Hearts of the Innocent proved what you don't need for a killer modern rock record " no need for over-the-top political statements or pounding walls of sound that are unfitting for the subject matter. All you need is a knack for looking at the world in a challenging new way and a keen sense of musicianship.

I love this record. This band has a very distinctive sound as a group and are especially awsome live. I think everyone on the planet should listen to the song Smile.
Nothing new| Posted April 07, 2008
There's nothing new here. It sounds like every other rock album out there. Hearts of the Innocent and Shut Me Out are good to rock out to (especially if you watch the video for the latter)

Great album by Kutless| Posted March 16, 2008
There are so many great songs on this album! Shut Me Out is my favorite out of all of them. It's the cornerstone of this great album. The music video really makes a standpoint with the song.Promise Of A Lifetime is an amazing song. It's true to every word. Winds of Change is another great song that meets what God does on the inside. The rest of the songs are great. Great for anybody who loves Christian music

I love this album! I think that it is my favorite Kutless album yet. Some rock and many catchy moments, this record will have you rocking for a long time. I got this album about a year ago and I'm still listening to it often. Every track is solid but my personal favorites are: "Hearts Of The Innocent", "Shut Me Out", "Promise Of A Lifetime", "Push Me Away", and the rockin' and so true "Million Dollar Man". Purchase this album if you like Christian rock, you will not be disappointed.
powerful!| Posted January 31, 2008
I don't regret buying this CD for a second! I really love it! The songs just flow together with a message of bold faith with a statement to this world that we don't need what it feeds us! I enjoy the entire CD but the highlights for me are...
Hearts of The Innocent-I love the message of this song about how messed up society is and how its the youth that are paying for it. The musical quality is great because lets face it Kutless knows how to rock!
Shut Me Out-I love this song!! Its is the hardest rock song on the album and what i love is despite how hard rock it is the message is still delivered and understood loud and clear. I love the approach of fearless missionary work and having that out look of what i have to offer is the truth so i will never back down and shut my mouth!
Smile-This is my favorite song on the album. John micah summerall sings it so well. He has this incredible talent for singing with reverence when he needs too and in this song he really sings beautifully and you can just hear how much his heart is in this song. Its the "sea of faces" of the Hearts album. I really do agree that a Smile really can say it all.
Promise of a lifetime-What a powerful song! I love its message more then anything and we can all relate to that feeling of feeling lost or confused but knowing we have our fathers eternal promise that he will never leave us. Again John sings it perfectly!
I love Hearts of the Innocent and I am eagerly anticipating their new album because they have a great talent for knowing when to rock and when to worship and I think thats something that some Christian rock bands don't do so well so i have a lot of respect for Kutless because they leave no question about who and what motivates their music and they walk the line between spiritual and entertaining seamlessly.
Sea Of Faces Part 2| Posted January 27, 2008
Hearts of the Innocent is awesome. The guitars are heavier and there are some really amazing guitar solos too. The songs are solid and i can't wait for the next one.
