No shrinking violet, Derek Webb addresses the areas of our lives that are so often overlooked by other communicators. "Mockingbird" is a provocative collection of songs that ask intelligent questions to broaden and deepen our views on what Christ has to say about the concerns of our lives including social justice, poverty, war and politics. Not one to offer pat easy answers, this band driven record offers deep probing questions wrapped in accessible melodies to stimulate our thinking and crystallize our personal theologies.

Catchy 'message' songs| Posted June 30, 2008
Derek Webb is one of my favorite Christian singers and I have loved his work since early Caedmon's Call. Mockingbird is Derek's 3rd solo album and is arguably his strongest 'message' album with standout songs A New Law, A King And A Kingdom and my favorite song is Rich Young Ruler, which is based on Luke 18:18-24. What an amazing reminder of our calling as Christians to give up our earthly desires and follow only Jesus.
This album was available free for a limited time during Derek's unique promotion, freederekwebb.com, and I'm so glad many people have gotten the chance to be blessed by Derek's music. If you like folk acoustic rock like John Lennon, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Jack Johnson or Shaun Groves, Todd Agnew and Caedmon's Call, you'll love Derek Webb.

I had heard a lot of great things about Derek Webb and decided to give him a whirl.I really love his lyrics, but have a hard time listening to him. He always sounds unhappy to me,even when the lyrics suggest something quite the opposite.
Good lyrics| Posted August 24, 2007
Derek Webb always has the best lyrics. Take the song, In God We Trust for example. "The government is on His shoulders..." We used to be a nation that was based on God and now we are trying to take Him out of everything. We have gone away from the way God intended America to be. Derek Webb is a very political writer and I think that is why I enjoy his music so much. I love politics and I think there are many things that we as Christian Americans need to know. Derek Webb is not afraid to spell it out for us!!! Good album!
Hard to Like| Posted August 03, 2007
It was really hard for me to like this album (which I got free as a download from Derek's record label). I really liked Derek's style from when he was with Caedmon's Call. It just seemed to me that this CD was a little depressing. The lyrics are right on with their meanings, but the music was something I couldn't latch on to. YMMV.
I was really happy to hear that Derek is coming back to CC.
Love this!| Posted July 26, 2007
I bought Derek Webb's first solo album and really enjoyed it. This album is very similar. I really like his style of music. He writes songs that can be considered a bit controversial.
