Over two years have passed since Mark Schultz released his last album. Stories & Songs picks up where the best-selling Song Cinema left off, delivering cozy melodies often punctuated with emotional twists that leave the listener both inspired and teary-eyed.
Helmed by award-winning producer Brown Bannister (Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman), the album highlights the prolific songwriting and artistry of Mark Schultz. As always, Schultz's soulful voice is front and center on these mostly piano-based tracks.
Co-writers Cindy Morgan, Scott Krippayne, and Chris Eaton lend their skills on a few tracks; with Morgan's contribution to "Letters From War" making it one of the standout songs on the album. All said, Stories & Songs is Schultz's best offering to date--a welcome return from one of the great new voices in Christian music.

Great music...unfamiliar name| Posted July 01, 2009
I had loved Mark Shultz's songs way before I knew who he was; Songs like "Remember Me" and "Broken and Beautiful" and "Letters From War". When I heard him at a local concert called Freedom Fest a couple of years ago, some things in my brain clicked and I was like "oh, so that's who sings that song". From then on I loved Mark Shultz and loved him even more when I heard the song "Walking Her Home".
Mark Schultz returns with his third project, appropriately titled, Stories and Songs. Schultz does little different this time around, but this album is brilliant artistically. But this is truly his peak performance.
The songs on Stories & Songs range from the utterly hilarious ("Running Just to Catch Myself") to the deeply moving ("Do You Even Know Me Anymore"). The touching "Letters from War" is performed in story form. It’s the story of a boy captured in the war and the letters he writes to his mother.
But as aforementioned, this contemporary Christian album is a masterpiece musically. A top rate orchestra, wonderful piano playing by Schultz himself, and everything else come together to make this a wonder to behold.
Anyone looking for a smile, laugh, or a healthy tear would do well to look into Stories & Songs, as should those looking for a beautiful work of musical art. Really, this can be recommended to just about anyone. It has all the right ingredients to keep just about everyone happy. You have no excuse not to check out Stories & Songs, one of the best CCM albums of the year.

The title of this cd fits it perfect. Mark is so good at making a song a story. Letters from war is such touching song. Mark is so gifted on the piano. A beautiful collection of songs!

This is a pretty good cd, and I especially loved that songs "He Will Carry Me" (the reason for which I bought the album) and "Letters from War". "Running just to catch myself" is the counterbalance to these powerful songs by showing Mark Shultz's humourous side.
