Between The Trees [Spain]| Posted July 17, 2009
"Spain" is the sophomore album from the Orlando-based band Between The Trees. "One tree represents where time and existence begins," ventures lead singer Ryan Kirkland. "The other is the end of everything. Between them is the time we're given on Earth. What matters is what we do with that time."
This band had me totally hooked with their awesome song "The Way She Feels" from "The Story And The Song". Some of my favorite mainstream bands are The Fray, Snow Patrol, Keane, Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab For Cutie and Dashboard Confessional. If you like those artists, you'll enjoy Between The Trees.
"We Can Try" has me hooked again and is the first single from "Spain", which is a very good album and ranks in my top 20 albums of the year. Musically the sound is very polished and catchy. Lyrically, these are mostly relationship oriented songs and sound like softer songs by The Fray, Mae and Anberlin. Many of the songs have a piano-based style and "We Can Try", "Spain", "The One Thing", "Miss You", "Move", "Scarecrow" and "Changed By You" are my favorite songs on this album. "Scarecrow" sums up one of the spiritual themes of the album: "I wasn't made for this world". "Changed By You" has the lyrics "God's grace has overtaken me, needless to say I'm blessed by you". The song is a very sincere love song and could be a wedding song.
Fans of Edison Glass, The Afters, Mainstay, Until June and Abandon should also enjoy Between The Trees.

I was very Suprised by these guys... I loved the song "The Way She Crys" from their first album but never really got into their music beyond that- that has changed with the release of spain.
"We Can Try" and "Spain" are two of the catchiest songs on the record- I love them... had me singing them for weeks...

We Can Try is a great song! I believe it is about leaving or coming back to someone after being gone and they want to give it another shot. That certain person has travelled the globe and see many things but they come back after being changed. The song is hoping to right all the things they have done wrong in the past. The song sounds off upbeat and hopeful all the way to the chorus.
The Second Coming| Posted June 29, 2009
Between The Trees return with a new album strangely titled, "Spain". This new full length record caught me by surprise. As I let the cd rolled on through the tracks I noticed flavorful diversity, and tasty tunes coming from the new project. The lead single of the record 'We Can Try' is very catchy and I saw the video(*which is REALLY well done) on JCTV. This band has actually developed their sound since the last full length release, and can be found pleasing anyone who is already a fan of the sounds like; Mat Kearney, The Fray, Coldplay, or Snow Patrol. I like the balance they have achieved on the new record, its a land that lies between emo hipster pop, solid Christian rock, and a backdrop of a reality show of MTV. SO I give this new project a thumbs up, and bonus points for offering a vinyl 7" when you pre-order the record from the label Bonded Records.
