Don't Need It| Posted June 06, 2007
Right before Essential Records parted ways with their "All Star" band, they released a collection of songs from the group's enormous 2 CD discography and titled it "Smash Hits." Oh yeah, two new songs can be found on this record, but don't get too excited, they are nothing to sing about. I find it hard to come up with any recommendations on spending $15 on a collection that you already have in the first two records. I love All Star United, but a collection after two records?
One of my favorites| Posted July 03, 2007
I don't give this album a great rating because it is a favorite--it is a favorite because it is so excellent. All Star United's trademark style is evident throughout and their humor in many of their songs will have you laughing at their artful lampoonery of American Society. One such example is from "Popular Americans" where they describe our american culture as being larger than life and without concern for others. Some favorite lines include "we come to pledge allegiance/at the altar of convenience/in our wide leg, baggy jeans" and "Our money says we trust/But you know it's only just/A party slogan we were taught to say"
Other favorite songs from the album include "Theme from Summer," "Hurricane Baby," and "Baby Come Back."
