Declaration [edit]
by Steven Curtis Chapman | Genre: Pop/Rock | Release Date: September 25, 2001

Declaration is the tenth studio album by the Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman. It was released on September 25, 2001, by Sparrow Records and it has been certified Gold.

The national concert tour that followed with Nichole Nordeman as the opening act, traveled to over 70 cities in 2002. The tour featured a re-telling of the story of five missionaries who were killed by the Huaorani people in 1956 while working in Ecuador. Each night after the story, Chapman introduced Steve Saint (the son of the slain missionary Nate Saint) and Mincaye (a native who killed the missionaries) as his guests on-stage. On Declaration, Mincaye can be heard chanting in his native language at the end of "No Greater Love".

The past few years have brought joy and sorrow--many times there have been more questions than answers. Chapman has captured these tears and triumphs on Declaration. Brace and undeniable, this album challenges and compels your personal faith.

Trying To Satisfy Everyone Leaves A Few Behind | Posted January 29, 2008
Steven Curtis Chapman continues to push his musical territory on Declaration, his tenth studio release during his incredible career. His last album, Speechless, made radio history with 7 singles going to number 1, bringing his total number of chart toppers to 36 (obviously now of of date - he has much more)! Guaranteed, there are a few more coming his way on the new album, including his first single "Live Out Loud" which is straight up Chapman pop. Steven's music is rounding the corner that he started turning on Speechless and it's represented well with the cover showing him holding an electric guitar, a new image considering it's the first time he's chosen the electric over the acoustic. But fear not Chapman fans, Steven still delivers his classic, contemporary sound. It's amazing to see how Steven's music develops with each album though. Songs like "See The Glory" and "Bring It On" are so heavy they will never be heard on radio stations that consider Steven as a staple artist, but rest assured they'll make #1 on a chart that he rarely visits: CHR and Rock. I'm not joking, these songs move with the best of them. The only complaint with this album is that it's painfully obvious that Steven is trying to satisfy everyone, creating an album that is split right down the middle with songs that will be enjoyed and songs that will be skipped. I know little people who enjoy rock as well as inspirational, especially all on one album. Steven will satisfy his regular fans and he'll probably pick up some new listeners along the way, which proves that he's a smart artist, but hopefully, he'll be able to pick a genre and stick with it in the future versus being everything to everyone.

THANKS TO THIS ALBUM! | Posted February 03, 2009
I owe a lot to this man, and in particular, this album.

My friend got me interested in CCM, and when I asked him which one I should try, this was one of three albums he suggested, and ultimately the one that I picked. I bought it, popped it in, and had a listen.

I figured, if i liked what i heard, I would continue listening to the Christian music.

Naturally, I fell in love and have LOVED Christian music ever since. There is a certain attribute that is rare, but unidentifiable, that this guy pulls off. I owe my love for Christian music in part to this man and his album, "Declaration".

No Greater Love | Posted July 25, 2007
"No Greater Love" is my favorite song on this CD. I love that Mincaye from the Aucas/Waodoni in Ecuador chants at the end of the song. That's the tribe that killed 5 missionaries including Jim Elliot and Nate Saint. The tribe later came to faith in Christ. That is a wonderful testimony to God's love for all people.
