Newsboys bassist Phil Joel delivers his second solo disc for INPOP Records. Kicking off the release is the opening grabber "Resolution," which swims in rock/alternative splendor, as do many of the album's cuts. Lyrically and musically, Joel has matured on this release. "The Man You Want Me to Be" is a prime example of what rubs off after 12 years in the Newsboys. The tune is a radio-ready musical excursion that features solid vocal work from Joel while drummer Lindsey Jamison pinnacles the song with solid grooves. What could be the mountaintop for the release is the cut "I Adore You," a testimony to Joel's willingness to be an instrument for God. Sung in reverence, Joel performs some of the disc's best vocal work as guitarist Justin York delivers some delectable acoustic riffs. "All Is Good" is a song York pushes into overdrive. The guitar work is outstanding while the vocal vibe flirts with an Oasis groove. Throughout Bring It On, Joel shows his musical chops with cut after cut of respectable songwriting and well-presented rock fodder. This is a release that finds him bringing more to his resume then just the Newsboys. ~ Steven Douglas Losey, All Music Guide
