Each week, dozens of albums, EPs, and singles are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify to listen to all the latest.
Rhyan LaMarr - aPerfectMess: Volume 1 A man of many talents, Rhyan LaMarr brings back the art of a concept album (interludes and skits included) with this release. A star-studded feature compilation including Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) heavyweights and a few mainstream friends including Da' Brat and Twista. "I Live," "Till Da Morning," and "Stayed Down" are standouts to me which I believe you'll enjoy. The four singles released prior to the project all contained solid videos since LaMarr is an incredible film director too. His more recent work is Canal Street. A film that crosses economic, racial, religious, and social boundaries to get at the broken heart of modern America.
Aha Gazelle - "Am I Gold" Like gold, Aha Gazelle never disappoints. We haven't heard from him since his solid EP release back in January titled, 180. He's literally one of the few artists I could listen to repeatedly, as he's never disappointed for over five years of classic releases. Gazelle blesses us with a mix of harmonies and lyrical delivery this time around. His wordplay always impresses. Check out yet another hit from Gazelle.
Dru Bex ft. Kay Sade - "Never Odd or Even" Kay Sade has had a quiet 2020 in form of releases, but she's been busy. Sade's contributions to this track are some of her best work. Also displayed, are a few of her pristine vocals on the adlibs. Bex doesn't release often, but when he does listeners can expect a solid track. This single is perfect for weekend energy while forcing your body to move too. Both of these independent artists are just getting started this year. Stay tuned.
