During quarantine, TikTok quickly became an extremely popular social media platform. Since everyone had so much free time, the service has exploded as people use TikTok to interact with friends and create sharable videos with one another.
The social media site does have some downsides. For example, some experts claim it's not the safest social media app. The U.S. is currently investigating the Chinese-owned company for security and privacy issues. Despite the controversy, many Christian artists are using Tik Tok for ministry. They're using their TikTok pages to share the message of Christ through the power of music.
I've compiled a list of Christian songs that are exploding in use on TikTok.
We can pretty much all agree that we spend too much time on our mobile devices. And, many teenagers on TikTok are using Hillsong Young & Free's song "Best Friends" to get that point across. On the site, you can find video after video with this theme. Many of us, when we visit family or friends, stare at a screen instead of interacting with loved ones. It's so encouraging to see people using TikTok to share the importance of true friendships and the beauty of living in the moment with others.
Kari Jobe "The Blessing"
If there's anything that this pandemic has taught us, it's that we're all human. And, we're all in this life together. Contemporary artist Kari Jobe's "The Blessing" truly came out at the perfect time. The song has brought so many people peace during this time. So many TikTok users have shared this song to remind people that God is close to them. People have used this song to share encouraging Bible verses, to let people know that they're not alone. On social media, It's so great to see others building each other up, instead of tearing each other down.
Chris Tomlin (feat. Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line) "Thank You Lord"
There's always something to be thankful for. And, contemporary music icon Chris Tomlin, as well as country stars Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line released a song about gratitude. Tik Tok users have created videos, thanking God for family, friends, pets, and, yes, coffee mugs. We've had a lot of time to reflect on what we're thankful for lately. And, these TikTok videos prove that we can be thankful—even for the small and ordinary things in life.
Rend Collective "My Lighthouse"
There are over 1,800 videos on TikTok that use folk band Rend Collective's song "My Lighthouse." Surprisingly, most of them are dancing videos. Many churches have canceled vacation bible school (VBS) classes this summer. So, teens are using the band's hit song to make their own VBS-inspired videos. Some of the captions are amazing: "Me, summer 2020 in my room alone wishing I could be at camp"; "Me, dancing with my imaginary VBS kids this year because VBS is canceled." TikTok is at least it's making people get creative.
We The Kingdom "Holy Water"
On TikTok, people are sharing their testimonies using popular band We The Kingdom's hit "Holy Water." Some people are using the song's powerful message to share inspirational stories. Some people are sharing videos of their baptism, testimonies, and encouraging Bible verses. Although there's a lot of negative on social media, there's also a lot of positive. I know that whoever Unique Watches and listens to these TikTok videos will be encouraged.
Riley Clemmons "Over And Over"
Pop singer Riley Clemmons is an inspiration—a role model—to Christian girls. So many young ladies have used her song "Over And Over" to encourage others (some are using this song to share some of their favorite Bible verses) and to share the light of Jesus.
Mosaic MSC "Fountain (I Am Good)"
Contemporary band Mosaic MSC's "Fountain (I Am Good)" is a beautiful song that reminds us of our true worth in Christ. It's another tune that people are using to share how good God has been in their life. One TikTok video creator shared, "Jesus wants to remind you how much He loves and treasures you."
Tye Tribbett "We Gon' Be Alright"
Let's face facts—2020 has been a hard year; the COVID-19 pandemic, racism, and human trafficking are great examples. Singer Tye Tribbett released "We Gon' Be Alright" to let people know that they're going to make it through these hard times. We're going to be alright because we have God on our side. Many TikTok users are using the song to spread the Black Lives Matter message, letting people know that they'll be okay. I love seeing stuff like this. It truly is a reminder that we'll be okay.
Mack Brock "Do It Again"
People have been recording their own version of artist Mack Brock's "Do It Again" on TikTok. There's nothing better than seeing people share the same message of God's faithfulness. This song has been an encouragement in my life. And, it's incredible seeing how the song has encouraged other people as well. Not many users have used this song as of yet, but I'm sure we'll see more soon.
