Singles. Recently, the new music coming from the rock world are singles–some really great ones. There is a variety of genres to check out, ranging from death metal, alternative rock, and metalcore. Here are a few of these new singles–and a playlist or two to go with them. This summer is full of awesome music, and we're just getting started!
Memphis May Fire - "Blood & Water"
Memphis May Fire is a recognizable name in the Christian metal scene, and for good reason. Their last couple of metalcore records, with lead singer Matty Mullins, were great collections of songs that fans still listen to. In recent years, they have experimented with some new sounds and styles. But nothing quite as musically heavy as their earlier music. Their new single, "Blood & Water," is being hailed as a comeback.
"The song is about finally coming to the realization that you don’t have to put up with abuse," the band shared on Facebook.
Seventh Day Slumber - "What I've Become"
Christian rock veterans Seventh Day Slumber is preparing up for their next rock record. The band's most recent release, Unseen: The Lion and The Lamb, was a contemporary worship music-based record (a collection of worship covers). "What I've Become" is a great sign that Seventh Day Sumber is ready to release more great rock music. I'm excited to hear more from the veteran rock band.
The message in "What I've Become" is about when we find ourselves in a place in life where we never thought we would be--often feeling stuck and fake. The chorus goes, "Sometimes I build myself up/So I can tear me down again/I never thought I’d get this low/I hate what I’ve become." Seventh Day Slumber has always strived to be relatable and hopeful with its music. I hope you can find encouragement in your situation in life with this hard-hitting song from the band.
World Divided - "Heaven Calls"
World Divided is a heavy music project by artist Danyal Suchta, known for being the bassist and clean vocalist/singer in the metalcore band Convictions. World Divided released a fantastic electronic-metalcore song called "Dispirit" in 2020. And, now we have "Heaven Calls," a new electronically-infused metalcore song with impressive musicianship. There are unique musical and vocal twists in the song that'll keep your attention.
"Heaven Calls" is deeply personal for Danyal. It has a message that many of us can relate to. He shares on social media, "'Heaven Calls' is about my struggle with loneliness and depression. It is like a wave that can hit at any moment. It's about me being real about how I feel. So, I implemented what I feel and have felt of being tortured mentally and added a horror aspect to the track. It sometimes feels like I'm trapped in that state of mind and like something is lurking or following me."
