Touring is hard, and it's not as glamorous as people may think. There are lots of pros and cons to touring and traveling around the country. One of the cons is that touring normally separates families. But, some families get to stay together as they travel the world on a tour bus.
There are a lot of husband-wife duos who get to do what they love together. They get to play live music, all while traveling on the road together with their family. It's a unique opportunity, to say the least. Here are some married couples who live life and do music on the road together.
The Cashmans
Musicians Jonathan and Britney Cashman said their vows in 2006, and they dove headfirst into music. The duo started by leading worship at their local church. Then, in 2014, the couple felt God calling them to something even bigger. Thus, they decided to expand their ministry and travel to churches around the United States.
The duo hit the road together. And, since then, they've been bringing the life-changing message of Jesus to people around the country. They've been able to travel around with their little girl, Everly. Recently, the couple announced that they're expecting their second baby due in November.
John & Korey Cooper
John and Korey Cooper are the iconic husband-wife duo. They're the masterminds behind Skillet, and they're very familiar with touring together. The couple married one year after releasing Skillet's 1996 self-titled debut album. John and Korey have balanced the complexities of life, music, and touring for more than 24 years. It must be a challenge, but John and Korey are doing an excellent job at managing it all.
The Gray Havens
The Gray Havens are one of my favorite husband-wife duos. Their music is stunning and thought-provoking. They're another duo that's doing great at balancing family life and their life in the music industry. Dave and Licia Radford are behind The Gray Havens, and they just had their second child, Noah, in July. Even with a new baby, they're still working hard on their music. The duo has a new album, Blue Flower, coming out this October, as well as a tour with artist John Mark McMillan this autumn.
Drakeford
Married couple Drakeford and Lucy-Jayne Lanier have a unique story. Drakeford is from the U.S., and Lucy-Jayne is from the UK. But the couple ended up meeting in the small country of Kyrgyzstan in 2011. Soon after, they started making music and touring together. They moved back to the U.S., exchanged vows, and continued making music together. They haven't slowed down, and they've released three full-length records so far. The couple has new music on the horizon, and they're expecting their first child due this November.
Love & The Outcome
I saw Canadian contemporary couple Love & The Outcome in concert years ago at Winter Jam. To me, they've always been my go-to example of a husband-wife duo making music together. Jodi and Chris Rademaker of Love & The Outcome are pros at touring as a family. In 2016, the couple welcomed their first baby, Milo--but that didn't stop them from touring. With their baby Milo, they continued to travel and play music. In 2017, Jodi gave birth to their second child, Ziggy. Even with their growing family, they've been able to create music and tour across the United States and Canada. They're basically "super parents," and they make for an awesome duo.
Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes
Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes are another iconic duo. The couple met at Gateway Church in Dallas, Texas, and got married in 2014. On the red carpet at the 2015 Dove Awards, Kari shared the news that she and Cody were expecting their first child. They had their second child in 2019, and they make a pretty cute family (like seriously, go follow them on Instagram). Although touring sometimes separates them, the duo has been able to tour together quite a bit. This fall, they will tour together on The Blessing USA Tour.
CLINE
CLINE is a family contemporary band, comprised of Garrett Cline, his wife Jacquelyn, and his brother, Darrick. CLINE got its start during the pandemic, a time when it was hard for artists to get out on the road. But, the family are no strangers to touring. Garrett and Darrick are also members of country artist Dylan Scott's band. Now, Garrett can travel with his wife Jacquelyn when they go out on the road as CLINE.
Grace Chaves has been a fan of all things Christian music since 2016. She is NRT's news editor, and one of NRT's youngest writers. Homeschooled, Grace is an author, loves Jesus, concerts, and road trips.
