Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Thi'sl feat. Hulvey - "By Your Power"
Full Ride Music’s Thi’sl and Reach Records’ Hulvey team up for a street anthem in the form of a worship vibe. It’s quite rare Thi’sl puts out a track with the featured artist’s contribution up first on the track. However, it works close to perfection with this offering. Hulvey starts off with the hook, then seamlessly transitions into his verses with clarity and praise to our Most High. Also, how about that falsetto surprise from him? Thi’sl follows up with eyes from the hood outward to the church. He explains regardless of the situation, God has always come through in abundance. Stream “By Your Power” on Spotify here.
The Illyindé Tape by Thomas Iannucci
Streetlight Sounds’ Thomas Iannucci returns with a mixtape of sorts based on his 2018 hit single titled, “Illyindé.” The project includes the original radio track, a demo version, two cyphers, and five new tracks. The feature list includes some of CHH’s brightest stars in Dillon Chase, Phaino, Kay Sade, J. Crum, King Chav, CZAR Josh, Weez the Satellite Kiid, Big Yae, Shiwan, Phil J., and others. Iannucci always provides some of the sharpest punchlines, wordplay, and rhyme schemes. His unique voice and delivery are like the cherry on top. He even included a studio version of a track with his sister Dondi who’s making a name for herself as a strong, diverse vocalist. Overall, it’s a treat to hear the young talent amplified on the various versions of “Illyindé” and Iannucci’s lyricism on the remaining tracks. He will always be on to keep on your radar. Braille x OnBeatMusic - "The Blessed Are"
Braille returns with a surefire banger teamed up with iconic producer OnBeatMusic. We do not hear from him as often as he’s the pastor at Saving Grace Church in Milwaukie, OR. However, he seems to always handcraft gems when present in the CHH space. Braille’s delivery remains true to that treasured boom bap sound from his come up in the late ’90s and turn of the century. OB is on point with the samples intertwined throughout. The single makes a hip-hop head like me grab a can on spray paint and go tag something! Stream “The Blessed Are” on Spotify here.
