The Christian Rock Report is proud to support bands that love Jesus and whose music makes a positive, lasting impact. I hope you have found some bands or songs this year that have been encouraging or refreshing to you and your ears. You can always catch up with previous editions of this report with the links at the end of the article. This time, we have a mix of singles, EPs, and albums from a variety of experiences. Enjoy and rock on.
Phinehas - The Fire Itself
It's been four years since metal band Phinehas released their previous studio record, Dark Flag. The wait was well worth it for their new record, The Fire Itself. This is possibly Phinehas' best album yet. Pulling from lead singer Sean McCullogh's personal life struggles over the last couple of years, the songwriting is deeply emotional and passionate. And, musically, it's metalcore at its finest. The guitar-driven band has delivered a great album that exceeds expectations.
Then It Ends - "Conform"
The fourth of five songs to be released this year by Christian metalcore band Then It Ends is "Conform." The band promised five new songs, one released monthly to form a new EP called Solace--and it's almost complete. My friend, Robert Houghton, debuted "Conform" on his YouTube Channel, PastorRobReacts. The song's lyrics are dark but address an issue we all struggle with: pride (in this case, leading to apathy to God). Then It Ends' songs are a highlight for me every month and I hope they have been for you, too.
Roselyn - Alive At Zero
Hailing from Denmark, the metalcore band Roselyn has released their full-length album, Alive At Zero. Musically, they remind me of rock bands like Every Time I Die, Zao, and Living Sacrifice. Alive At Zero, though a little repetitive, is enjoyable and has solid songwriting. I'm sure a fan of metal can find some songs here that they enjoy. I particularly like "Grace and Fire," "Victimizer," and "Calm The Storm." Keep an eye on this group, as they have good potential.
