Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Soul Therapy by Bizzle
God Over Money’s Bizzle returns to the spotlight unashamed as ever of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bizzle and the entire GOM team have never sugarcoated lyrics or failed to deliver God-ordained material regardless of the single or project. Bizzle and his team remain as one of the few rosters listeners are guaranteed to hear Christ’s name glorified, the gospel broken down, and scriptural-laced bars.
Soul Therapy provides an overall emotion of just being tired, exhausted with how the world ticks day-to-day and the issues within. Racism, division, hypocrisy, social injustice, biblical ignorance is a few of many topics covered throughout the 9-track album. Featured artists include Evan Ford, Jcarter, Jewell Jones, Kiddy Bizness, and Grammy-nominated Musiq Soulchild.
Standout tracks include “Feel A Way,” “Monster,” and “Note To Self.” The instrumentation and sonics go crazy on the project too. A ton of piano keys, horns, choir-like sounds, melodies, and rim shots. I love how it adds flavor to the typical trap sound. He wraps up the project with “The Gospel,” the same track he’s ended his last three or four projects. Gone are the days when every CHH artist used to include a gospel presentation, as much respect to Bizzle for reviving the practice. Stream Soul Therapy here.
Miles Minnick - "IONEEDUM"
Bay Area’s Miles Minnick is one of the hardest working artists in the CHH space. In 2021 alone, he’s released seven singles, an EP, a handful of incredible feature verses, and was part of the Reach Records Summer ’21 playlist. The former youth pastor is energetic, creative, and firmly grounded in always bringing “Christ-glorifying and edifying” music to the people. Also, his music videos scream quality and innovation from start to finish.
The track focuses on the idea of steering away from negative influencers in your life. Friends, social media, idols, or anything that takes away personal focus on God. Minnick always does a stellar job of presenting biblical principles on every track. Also, his level of energy seems bottomless. His music always has fans moving infectiously to the beat. This is one of my personal favorites from him to date. Stream “IONEEDUM” on Spotify here.
George.Rose feat. Arik Nelson & Parris Chariz - "Bringing It Home"
Dallas resident George.Rose returns with a certified heater of a track this time around. Rose is a man of many talents expanded over his own artistry, production, and songwriting skill set. This may have only been his third single released in 2021, however, he’s been a featured artist on a handful of incredible tracks with the likes of Miles Minnick, Double ATL, and others. For the latest single, he’s teamed up with Arik Nelson and World 45’s Parris Chariz.
During a rare instance, Chariz handled solely the hook for the track while Nelson and Rose exchanged bars back-n-forth. The track opens up with Chariz before Rose explodes with a rapid-fire verse forcing listeners to pay close attention to the content. Rose delivers creative wordplay and several cultural references you’re not going to want to miss. After hearing Nelson for the first time on a track, I’m hooked. Arik Nelson is a name you’re going to want to write down, as he’s one to watch. Stream “Bringing It Home” on Spotify here.
