Andrea Olson is a worship leader, songwriter, and business owner who lives in Minnesota. Married to Gabe Olson, and mother of three children, she juggles many different roles. But perhaps, most notably, she's the founder of the Overflow Worship organization.
Overflow Worship started in 2014 with the purpose of serving and supporting the local church team. It aids through mentorship and online resources. Not to mention through its annual Overflow Worship Conference.
Andrea travels to other churches where she leads workshops and worship. I connected with her about her recent music, the mentorship program, and what’s coming up in her ministry. We even chatted a little bit about Christmas.
Tell us about your new Christmas single, “The Proof.”
As I was reading through the Scriptures about the birth of Christ, I couldn’t help but wonder what that must have been like to be in their shoes?
People had waited so many generations for a savior. And the wise men and the shepherds were able to see the proof that God hadn’t forgotten them. Proof that He keeps His promises. I couldn’t help but wonder if we all need to be reminded of that today. That we already have the proof.
We know Jesus already came to save us. But we need to remember that whatever the struggle, He has not forgotten us. I pray that this song is a blessing to the Church and that it’s an anthem to lift together.
What are your favorite things about the Christmas season?
My favorite thing about the Christmas season is living it through the eyes of my kids. They are so filled with excitement and wonder. It’s a reminder for me to relax and enjoy this season. I do also love a good Christmas cookie.
“The Proof” is an original Christmas song. If you could record one Christmas classic, what would it be?
It would be "All is Well," the classic version by contemporary band Point of Grace from years ago. I have classical music in my blood so, if I could get a good piano and orchestra in there, it’s likely it would move me to tears.
Tell us about your unique 1:1 mentorship program for young, local worship leaders.
The Overflow Worship Professional Development Program started very organically as I began training young musicians and aspiring leaders who want to serve on their local church worship team. And it’s turned into a lifelong passion of equipping and raising up the next generation of worship leaders. It’s a six-month commitment and we meet virtually 1:1 to discuss books we read together as well as work through musical skill and leadership development. It’s truly an honor and one of my favorite things.
What’s next?
This next year, I plan to release more music for the Church and really dive into creating more valuable content for Overflow Resource. It’s a website designed to help the local church worship team with practical topic-based training, tutorials, and team resources for their context. My husband and I have been working on a four-book children’s series about miracles for a few years, and we plan to release the remaining three in the series next year. We’re very excited about this new adventure.
How can we be praying for you?
Thank you for asking. For wisdom in these next steps. I don’t want to run ahead or lag behind what the Lord is calling our family into.
