Lisa Hentrich is a near-Nashville-based songwriter who describes herself as a “creative entrepreneur and a faith blogger.” Originally from St. Louis, Lisa pursues a message that glorifies God.
Her most recent single, “No More," was written in Dublin, Ireland. It's rooted in the struggle of addiction. Something that people in Dublin really struggle with. Lisa says the message hit close to her not only for that specific topic of addiction. But also, as “taking a stand against the Devil’s oppression.”
I connected with Lisa about her new single and other ways she is furthering the kingdom of God. She also shared some insight on what we can expect from her in the future.
Tell us about your new single, “No More.”
My new single is about abolishing addiction. And all other weapons the enemy uses to steal, kill, and destroy life, joy, and freedom. It was written during a music mission trip to Ireland, where we learned that the Dublin community, we were writing songs at suffered terrible devastation after heroin came into its midst.
Addiction is a topic that is hard for the church to address and talk about. Why is that and how can we help change that?
I love that the church is a place where people can learn about God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I'm someone who has personal experience with losing loved ones to addiction. So, I would love to see the church also be a place where people know they can walk through the door and find help, hope, and deliverance from addiction.
12-step programs can be helpful, for sure. But everyone needs the love of God in their life and people alongside to teach them who the real enemy is. And how to kick him out of their life.
Addiction is just one of many ways the enemy infiltrates and oppresses people’s lives. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” So, people need to know what God’s Word says about any kind of oppression they're going through, including addiction.
Tell us about your new community that you have launched?
I created the GAMG Stories online community for women just before Reba McEntire released a song I co-wrote called “God and My Girlfriends.” It’s a song she had put on hold seven years earlier but didn’t record. However, when she was going through some difficult times in her life, the song's message helped carry her through it.
It’s an unusual thing for an artist of that caliber to remember a seven-year-old song and decide to record it. I knew that if that song meant that much to her, its message could help a lot of other women, too. So, I created a community with a mission of praising God, celebrating girlfriends, and sharing inspiring stories of women with faith-growing resources.
How else can people partner with you in your ministries?
For the Christmas holiday, I designed an ornament to honor loved ones lost to addiction or struggling with addiction. You can write the name of your loved one(s) on the back of the ornament and hang it on your tree or anywhere else that will help you remember to pray for them regularly.
Prayer is a powerful weapon. You can join in praying the “Abolishing Addiction” prayer when you order the ornament at LisaHentrich.com/NoMore and get a free download of the song with your order. Proceeds from the sale of this ornament go to ministries helping people with addiction recovery, including onestephope.org.
What’s next?
On the artist front, I will be releasing another song after the first of the year. For the song, I collaborated with Crosby Lane. On the GAMG Stories platform, I’m excited about some new products coming soon to help women grow in their faith walk, including an online teaching program that will be fun for girlfriends to do together. I also have a new way I will be sharing women’s stories to reach a larger audience.
How can we be praying for you?
Having lost my singing voice for five years, I struggle with the fear of performing again and would love prayers about that. Perfect love casts out fear, and when you take the time to pray for someone that is perfect love. Also, as a woman in my 50s, I often feel like I have “aged out” as an artist.
The music industry is known for telling singers there’s an age limit, but God tells me otherwise. He says there's no time limit or age limit on what He can do with a person’s voice and talents that are completely surrendered to Him.
