PLANETBOOM is the youth ministry of the Planetshakers Church. They are based in Melbourne, Australia, and are dedicated to crafting unique moments in which young people can encounter God. They have released three studio albums, their latest being You, Me, The Church, That's Us - Side A.
This project was designed specially, to be listened to from start to finish. Each song is the product of many hours of dedication and collaborative creativity as the band connects with the audience in various ways. Many different styles of music are featured, and I enjoyed diving into some of them, below.
NEW: "The Core"
Straight out the gate I'mma give it to you straight Ain't no debate My God is great
This song centers on the Christian hip hop genre and uses the mixing of beats to connect with their younger audience. I appreciate how they preserved the message in the lyrics throughout all of the musical diversity.
The words sung in this song state a very simple truth. God is good. In fact more than that, He is great. There are so many adjectives that could be used to describe His grandeur, and yet still not enough. He has given us words to praise Him, and music to worship Him, but the tangible humility of bowing before Him is what has resonated most with me recently. There will always be a gap between my love for Him and the love He deserves, but He still only desires the heart of His children. It's truly a blessing to be wanted by my Heavenly Father day after day.
NEW: "Nothing On You"
All they offer is a cheap imitation Of the love that I've found in my Saviour This world's got nothing on You You're the lovе of my life, You're my go-to
"Nothing on You" is a distinctive expression of God's incomparable power and the satisfaction only He can bring. As mentioned previously, this musical style is not identical to the first song I looked at. It has an entirely different sound, yet the purpose remains the same.
I've been down in what I call "the hole" before. Oftentimes, I dig it myself, pushing away family and friends who could help as I burrow deeper into my intoxicating emotions. When I'm in that spot, I am constantly looking around, searching for sources of satisfaction to heal my pain. But all the world offers are temporary numbing substances. There's no solution here, no permanent healing. Only when I look up, does God come through every time. He raises me up out of my pit of despair and fills me with peace. It's beautiful and I love how this song accurately describes that moment of redemption.
