Martin Smith has been bringing the truth of God to the UK church for over thirty years. He has stepped into many roles including lead vocalist for the bands Delirious? and Army of Bones. In addition, he tapped into his talent as a solo worship leader beginning in 2013. Ever since then, he has been focusing on his personal relationship with Christ and crafting that into lyrical form for all the world to hear. His most recent project, Dancing in The Fire, is a reflection of his faith and was released earlier this month.
The upbeat rhythm of the title track immediately drew me in and I'm so excited to share this joy with you. We dive into that song and another one off the album, below.
NEW: "Dancing in The Fire"
Oh, I'm dancing in the fire
Wake me up 'cause I've been sleeping
Now's the time to end the weeping
Oh, we're dancing in the fire
As I said before, I was intrigued by the confidence with which this tune begins. I love the energy Smith carries through the song as he speaks of walking by faith. The music video also has a great message; the musicians and dancers communicate their redemption in Jesus through vivid smiles and gazes full of refreshed hope.
There is a difference between confidence and cockiness; it is one I have become very familiar with as I've interacted with many different worship leaders over the last few years. God grants us, His children, a serenity that He is in control and then, commands us to go forth and spread that joy throughout the world. But never once did He tell us to lie about this gift and the truth is, saying that the power comes from ourselves is a lie. God is the only one with the right to claim the goodness we see in our lives as His work. I encourage you to dance through the fire straight into your community and share the good news. Just be careful who you give the credit to.
NEW: "Our Eyes Are on You"
And You promise You will keep us
Safely by Your side
We don't know what to do
But our eyes are on You
This track is my favorite of Smith's new album because of the special feature by his daughter, Elle Limebear, who is also a Christian music artist I highly suggest listening to. The rhythm of this song and the medley of their voices worked exceptionally well together; I couldn't have asked for a better song to close out this week's edition of Worship Wednesday.
I don't have a substantial story of distrust in humanity like I know some people do. No one has let me down to the point of making me think I'd never be able to love again. However, I've been disappointed in little ways, and for me, hurt still comes. It's just in the form of papercuts, not gashes. I say this to remind you that everyone is different and we all have unique stories. There's a reason God put so many of His children on this Earth and it's not so one could replicate what another was already doing. His promises assure us that we are loved and that He will never abandon us. Regardless of what you've been through, and no matter where you're going, the statement that He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6) is a solid fact. I believe this with all my heart which is why I keep my eyes on Him.
