Honor and Glory is a worship band, made of members who come from quite a unique background. The members, Kevin Young, Josiah Prince, and Joey West, hail from the hard rock band Disciple. Add in Dane Allen and Marco Pera from the bands LOYALS and Amongst the Giants, respectively, and you've got a hard-rocking, Jesus-loving band that has inspired me immensely even in the mere minutes I've been listening.
Their debut album was released through BEC Recordings earlier this month and I got the chance to dive into two songs off the album, below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
"God of My Story"
God of my story from glory to glory Behind and before me You have been with me Lord Through all of my history from valley to victory Beginning and ending, every chapter is yours You are God of my story All I have is yours
As an avid reader, I have become quite familiar with many of the authors behind the books I read. I fall in love with some through their vivid words and find myself pushing others away because of my lack of connection with the material. Nevertheless, no matter how I feel about their story, it doesn't change that they wrote it. The creativity (or lack thereof) is accredited to their name, and it is out there for all the world to see. The same thing happens with God and how He has beautifully crafted each of our lives. Everyone else can have their opinions, but I know who my Creator is and I know that He wrote every word of my story before I could even step into my role in it. I surrender my life to Him, I surrender my world to Him, and to the author of my very life, I give up my story.
"Battle Belongs"
So when I fight I'll fight on my knees With my hands lifted high O God the battle belongs to You And every fear I lay at Your feet I'll sing through the night O God the battle belongs to You
A popular song, originally released by Phil Wickham, "Battle Belongs" details a type of letting go that we should all aspire to resonate with more. My favorite line, "So when I fight I'll fight on my knees/With my hands lifted high" proves the point that sometimes the best thing we can do is give it all up to God. In fact, that's the best thing we can do all the time. There is no situation He can't take over and turn around for His good. Surrender has become one of the most powerful weapons in my belt, even during the first few months of this year. When I have reached the pinnacle of my strength, the climax of my emotions, there is truly nothing else I can do but surrender. Even though the fight pains me, I am ever so grateful for these moments when God swoops in and tells me that "everything is going to be okay." I am believing the same for you today, or whenever you are reading this. God has got every worry, every fear, and your future in His hands; it's going to be okay.
