A church movement based in Nashville, Tennessee, The Belonging Co, has been releasing music as a collective since 2014. With a heart for others and a love for sharing the freedom of God, each song they create is made to cherish the presence of God. Even more so, the group prays the life their music holds is truly the breath of God, rather than their temporary words. They phrase this desire beautifully, "We desire encounter over entertainment, intimacy over industry, presence over presentation, people over position... And most of all JESUS over everything."
Most recently, the group released the album Here (Live) which captured moments within the church to invite the listener into an encounter with God. We take a look at two songs off this record, below.
NEW: "Come Alive (Resurrection Power)"
The One who empties graves Is here to do the same Let dead things come to lifе Let dry bones come alivе
As I listened to this song, I felt a smile creeping across my face, slowly at first and then quicker until I felt enveloped by joy. I'm not exaggerating that at all, for who could magnify the impact of God more than He himself? This song perfectly captures the energy of a live worship experience and ministers to those looking for a miracle, something I can relate to on a small, but no less significant, scale right now.
God can do amazing things, turning entire communities over to salvation, and healing those with chronic illnesses; He specializes in miraculous moments like the ones for those with doctor's reports of "there's nothing more we could do'' who are suddenly rejuvenated with new life and a fresh breath. How does that even happen and why do we not believe it? I think part of the mystery of God is that we can't pinpoint how or even why He works; all He asks us to do is believe He can do it, but even that seems difficult sometimes. I have a perpetual prayer that He would take my unbelief and turn it into faith so strong the enemy flees at the sight of my worship. I pray you would join with me in this praise and sing the song of Jesus even when we don't see Him working. He has resurrection power that stirs in the hearts of each one of His children and if sometimes that's over my head, I'm okay with that. He can do miracles and I need more faith to step back and let Him complete those in my life.
NEW: "Firm Foundation (He Won't)"
'Cause I've built my life on Jesus And He's never let me down He's faithful in every season So why would He fail now?
“So why would He fail now/He won’t,” what an incredible declaration of faith this is. I often feel shaky, literally and figuratively, when considering the madness happening in this world all around me. I am overwhelmed by trying to keep up with every relationship in my life and then I absolutely fall apart when one crumbles in front of me. This song was the perfect reminder that these earthly problems will not be the death of me and I declare that right now as truth. I am safe in the presence of God and when my logical mind demands proof of His worthiness, all I have to do is flip back a few chapters in my life and tell myself, “Look how far you have come.” He is a faithful God and He is never going to let me down. It’s something I need a constant reminder of and I can’t wait to keep this song on repeat as a way of ingraining that truth into my mind. Next time you find yourself asking, "why would God fail us now?" just remember He won’t.
