planetboom is the youth ministry of the Planetshakers Church. They are based in Melbourne, Australia, and are dedicated to crafting unique moments in which young people can encounter God. They have released four studio albums, their latest being You, Me, The Church, That's Us - Side B.
This project was designed with the clear intention for listeners to encounter the presence of God as He works through these melodies. Each song is the product of many hours of dedication and collaborative creativity as the band connects with the audience in various ways. Many different styles of music are featured and I enjoyed diving into some of them.
NEW: "I Will Follow You"
I'm all in to love You
My Saviour, Jesus, this is all for You
I'm livin' to know You
Every day, hey, I will follow You
The first time I listened to this song, I immediately found myself bobbing my head up and down to the beat. Of course, the lyrics are also packed with a powerful message--and we will dive into that in a moment. On the side of musical appeal, the synth contributed so much to the upbeat feel that I felt like I was back at summer camp. I cherished every second of the joy presented by this song.
Even as I was dancing the day away to the catchy melody, I began to internalize a lot of these lyrics. I'm so grateful for artists like this band who inject truth into their songs. This one is a declaration of life truly dedicated to God and the furthering of His kingdom.
For me, the line "Every day, I will follow You" served as a reminder that I need to be living to emanate His light in everything I do. He is not a God limited to church on Sundays and youth group one day a week. He does not contain His power to the times when I feel like acknowledging it. Rather, He is always around us and why pretend that He isn't?
Following Him might look different in your life depending on the dreams and gifts He has blessed you with, but I would like to encourage you today to take on a simple task. Smile at someone you've never met before the day is over. Yes, sometimes God works in miracles and glorified healings, but He also works in what is seemingly ordinary. I encourage you to share that light today simply by channeling it into your actions. It's amazing what can happen when we learn from the love of our Heavenly Father.
NEW: "I'm Free, I'm Fearless"
You walk through fire
Close the mouths of lions
Even take down giants
Hey, what's left to fear?
This song is such an incredible battle cry of freedom. I couldn't help but leave it on repeat after it ended. The fire it instilled in me to face the rest of my day with confidence draws a parallel to the power that comes from knowing the Word of God.
He truly is a God of miracles, as demonstrated in so many instances throughout the Bible. Some problems seem to tower over me, and there are plots of evil I feel are blocking my path forward. But the incredible news is that He can conquer everything just like He conquered the grave. He is not a God that relies on human timing; that is simply our need for organization.
The amount of years we see between the resurrection of Jesus and our present situation is not recognized by His power, nor does it diminish it. Rather, it is simply more time for Him, more time to show Himself, in countless instances around the world. I am so grateful to be alive today so I can see that same God of miracles work in my life and those of the people around me.
