Davy Flowers is a worship leader and singer/songwriter based in Dallas, Texas. Her passion for words combines beautifully with her adoration of Jesus. Her sound recently caught the ear of many listeners, including The Worship Initiative, where she's a resident artist and songwriter, and Watermark Community Church, where she's a worship leader.
Her full-length debut album, I Was Loved, follows her position as an opener on The Kingdom Tour with worship band Housefires. Her new record is infused with truth, a fact you'll find evident in the two songs I highlight.
Oh, But God
All the wreckage of my choices
You have turned to life from ashes
Lifted from death risen with Him
Now I stand in confidence
I love this song because it exemplifies the saving grace of God beautifully. Davy's voice describes how God turns our humanly sinful choices onto a path to make us new in Him again.
I can't think of one time in my life when God wasn't present waiting with open arms. On the contrary, I could think of plenty of times when I saw Him and ran in the opposite direction. He's never given up on me. Thank God, He constantly refines me of the world's dirt and grime in favor of beauty in Him.
If you're going through the hardest trial of your life right now, I pray a blessing over you and that you would have an open heart to receive the message that God will never leave you. I see Him working every day. And I believe we will soon all sing together, "Rich in mercy how You loved me/"Too much to let me stay lost."
Never Stop
I still need a Savior I still need a Father
I still need a friend
I still need the promise that goodness and mercy
Won't come to an end
Before listening to this track, I thought that I don't talk about Jesus nearly enough. Sure, I'll add Him into a pep talk when a friend is feeling down, and, yes, I pray every day. I read my Bible, too, but is my heart really in it? When Davy sang out, "I still need a friend," I felt it resound in me like a wake-up call.
Do we ever stop needing God? The answer is no. It doesn't matter how high the current mountain that we may be on is, we still need Him. The lyrics bring to light how much we depend on God when life seems bleak, but then quit hanging on to Him when we feel better.
Therefore, we can't rely on feelings or friends. Because no matter what is going on in our lives, the highs aren't nearly as fulfilling without God. You could have all the money in the world, the best job, and figuratively reside on the tallest mountain in the world, but without God? It means nothing. I must remember that God, "You satisfy, that's never gonna change." He never stops loving us, why do we stop loving Him?
