Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Jarry Manna - "into you" World 45's artist, Jarry Manna, releases his second single of 2022 under the Parris Chariz-led label. Formally, Manna was part of the indie tribe. collective that included nobigdyl., Mogli the Iceberg, and WHATUPRG. Manna's focus has leaned more on his ability to harmonize through R&B than rap through the new label and new opportunities. The track circles around relationships, emotion, and a soulful vibe. Stream "into you" on Spotify here.
Social Club Misfits feat. Torey D'Shaun - "Rendezvous" Southern Florida rappers Fern and Marty drop their second single from the upcoming album, Everybody Loves A Comeback Story. Also, Social Club Misfits, being the innovators they are, resurrected the return of the third verse. One of the hottest artists in the CHH space tagged along for the ride on the track, Torey D'Shaun. D'Shaun brought forth an infectious hook and handled the surprise third verse closing the track out. One of my favorite pieces of the track was when Fern delivered, "God still got me on the waitlist / That means he's teaching me patience / and I ain't going nowhere without him / I'm back on my job like a day shift / Sleeping on me kinda dangerous." If this track is any indication of what the new project dropping on September 30 will sound like, fans are in for one of the best SCM projects to date. Stream "Rendezvous" on Spotify here.
1K Phew feat. Jai'Len Josey - "Safe"
Reach Records' rapper 1K Phew continues dominating the CHH space after "stealing the show" related to the 2022 Summer Playlist Reach released in July. The latest single, "Safe", is a certified banger! Phew's cadence and delivery differ from what fans are used to hearing. The refreshing approach combined with a newcomer vocalist found in Jai'Len Josey represents a dope formula for a superior track. As Phew continuously mentions, gospel rap is back. The track revolves around how God continues to keep him safe throughout trials, tribulations, and difficult seasons. Phew also mentioned, on social media today, that this is the last single before the album releases; buckle up! Stream "Safe" on Spotify here.
