SEU Worship is the musical ministry of Southeastern University, intent on "reaching young people with the gospel through worship music," as their biography describes. The core artists are Sydney Wilson, Kenzie Walker, Dan Rivera, and David Ryan Cook balanced out with rotating student members. The most concise summary of their unique musical style is prophetic pop. Through catchy melodies and hit beats, they emphasize the miraculous power of God and how He works in ways we cannot predict.
It's this faithful fervor that fueled their recent project, Heart Cry. Here's a look at two songs from the thirteen-track album.
"Heart Cry"
"I'm closing all the doors
To all that Isn't Yours
I'm only here for you"
The song talks about distraction and its power against authentic worship. I've had days when I've stood, both in the congregation and on stage, swaying with my mind miles away. Some may say I didn't "feel it." But I've learned that "feeling it" isn't a mood we're stuck with; it's a choice.
The lyrics, "I'll dig the trenches deep/Come flood through the depths of me" is a beautiful illustration of the effort we must put in before God can pour His spirit out. We don't have to walk to Him, and we don't have to walk alone, but we do need to decide to open our minds to His grace. We do indeed need to echo the deepest cry of our hearts to be one with Jesus. This fellowship is ingrained within us; I pray this song will inspire you to embrace that desire and move closer to our Heavenly Father.
"All That Matters"
"All my life has taught me
Is that You're all that matters
You're all that matters
Every day has led me"
At the end of the day, Jesus is all that matters. The world could crumble, and I would still be praising Him because I have encountered His sweet presence. It's an unfortunate aspect of my human nature that my confidence does waver sometimes, but He never fails to remind me of His grace.
The SEU team does an incredible job letting listeners know how good He is. Something changes when you meet Him, and I pray you'll experience a life-changing moment soon. Lord, "Let Your Spirit come blow/From heaven above." Would you come and meet us in a new way? We thank you for your presence and ask for a new encounter. Remind us once again that you are all that matters.
