Contemporary artist Jeremy Camp launched the autumn run of his I Still Believe Tour in September with breakout new artist Katy Nichole as support. The show's set list drew music mostly from his latest album The Story's Not Over and his 2019 album When You Speak. But it also included a few trips down memory lane with some older songs.
Jeremy's songs have deeply impacted my walk with Jesus since I was young in my faith. I know I'm not the only Christian music fan with a story about God who has used Jeremy's music in their life. I've always been inspired by the sincerity of Jeremy's lyrics, his pure love for God, and the way he points people to Jesus at every moment of his live shows—even when he's rocking out. So, I was excited to catch the I Still Believe Tour in Kansas City, Missouri in October 2022.
Katy Nichole
I'm excited that Katy Nichole joined Jeremy Camp on this tour because fans get to hear songs from her recently released self-titled debut EP performed live on stage. Many Christian music fans were introduced to Katy through TikTok or after hearing her breakout debut single, "In Jesus' Name (God of Possible)" on Christian radio. But, tonight, audiences will get to know Katy even more as an artist and her music.
Katy got the whole room praising, clapping, and foot-stomping along with the opener, "Jesus Changed My Life." She followed up the catchy beat with "Jesus, Thank You" and the inspiring ballad, "God Is In This Story" (the recorded version is a collaboration with the contemporary band Big Daddy Weave).
Katy led us into a worship moment with a cover of a familiar song, "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" by the iconic worship band Hillsong UNITED. Before stepping into her solo artist career, Katy was a worship leader at her church in Arizona, mentored by The Afters frontman Josh Havens. So, it was a fitting choice to include a worship song in the setlist. It was a beautiful moment of looking at Jesus together.
She shared her testimony of how God restored her health and her faith after a scoliosis diagnosis and surgery that didn't go as planned. Her story set up a powerful moment concluding with her viral song and debut single, "In Jesus' Name (God of Possible)." The moment the song began, the crowd rose to their feet, hands immediately raised in prayer and worship, receiving the prayerful lyrics.
Jeremy Camp
Jeremy's set of music was a perfect balance of old and new songs from his 20-year catalog. He became emotional in the first few moments of the show. He was grateful to be in the Lord's presence singing about what He's done with other believers and expectant for what God would do during the night. That's what makes me such a Jeremy Camp fan: he has a sincere, humble, tender heart for God and people.
He opened with high energy, playing "When You Speak", "Can't Take Away," and "Dead Man Walking" back-to-back. "Dead Man Walking" ended with a rock moment when Jeremy and his electric guitarist shredded on the guitar together. It was fun to watch the band jam together, enjoying the moment.
His acoustic set was, by far, my favorite segment. Jeremy, on guitar accompanied by his guitarist and keys player, played stripped-down versions of some of the most beloved songs from his early career. "I Still Believe" (with scenes from the feature film about his life playing in the background), "Walk By Faith," and "Right Here" (played on the ukulele, inspired by his son Egan who is learning the instrument). He ended the segment with "Give Me Jesus" and "My Desire" played by himself on piano.
Jeremy transitioned back into the full band set with a snippet of "This Man" (my favorite song of his), which led to him singing about forgiveness, freedom, and healing in the name of Jesus. He ended by leading the crowd in the familiar worship song, "Great Are You, Lord."
You could feel the unity and presence of God as the band and audience worshiped together. But this moment also showcased that not only is Jeremy a great artist and performer, but he's also a great worship leader. And that's part of what has caused Jeremy to stand out as a long-time artist. He has a true heart of worship behind everything he does and every word he sings. More than anything, you can tell he wants people to experience Jesus.
For his final song, Katy Nichole joined him on stage for "Same Power." He returned to the stage for an encore performance of "Keep Me In The Moment," complete with streamers and visuals on screen of his family photos.
Closing Thoughts
I walked away from the concert grateful that as Christians we get to sing the truth of Scripture about who God is, what He's done for us, and what He wants to do. And Jeremy's songs are tools to help us do that because they are packed with biblical truth. If you see this show, you'll leave refreshed in your faith, reminded of what you believe and why, and more in love with Jesus. And you'll have fun, too.
