Christian pop singer Blanca has a lot to say on her new album, The Heartbreak & The Healing. She uses a diverse fusion of pop, Latin, Hip-Hop, and Gospel to share her heart about her recent divorce.
This full-length album is loaded with positive grace-filled messages of hope that address the pressures of life. Blanca understands that her identity only comes from her relationship with God. The album offers two sides of the same story—the hurt and the redemption.
Blanca has released a string of hit songs, "Who I Am," "Real Love" and “Shattered.” Now, she gets real in an interview I had with her about “The Healing,” the stirring title track from her new album.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
Kevin, we’ve talked many times over the years. I’ve always appreciated your support of my music. “The Healing” comes from my journey of brokenness and seeing God heal areas of my life that I thought I was dry and deserted. It’s a crazy thing when you can turn your pain into praise, and your heartbreak into healing and redemption. It’s only been by God’s grace that I’ve received this healing and redemption. I’m so grateful for every single part of this journey.
I feel like my journey through music has been my life’s story. It’s a way of coping and expressing myself when I can’t find the words. Music is a journal entry where I can express myself creatively.
“The Healing” is a picture of my process and the song talks about that process. It’s about what I’m going through right now: a combination of feeling pain and heartache and seeing God in the middle of it. Knowing that somehow the process is going to refine me and make me better.
This song is an awakening of when things began to click that God was healing the parts of me that needed attention.
What Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
James 1:2-4(NIV): "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
1 Peter 5:10 (NIV): “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV): "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen."
Philippians 4:7(NKJV): “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 (VOICE): “But as the Scriptures say, No eye has ever seen and no ear has ever heard and it has never occurred to the human heart all the things God prepared for those who love Him.”
Hebrews 13:14 (NLT): "For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come."
Hebrews 11:1(NKJV): “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Romans 8:28(NKJV): "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
Jeremiah 29:11(NIV): "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Revelation 21:4-5(NKJV): “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
What is the takeaway message?
I couldn’t fully understand the purpose of why things happened the way they have. A scripture that has carried me through is to “count it all joy” when you go through trials, which is when you gain perseverance and strength.
I’ve grown through my pain and healing. God has turned it for my good. My encouragement from this album is an openness to express my feelings and that it’s okay to not be okay. God is in all of it. Through the process of healing, I’ve gained more understanding of who I am and who He is.
Loss is different for everybody. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one, a marriage, or a job. Or maybe you’re in a difficult place. Through this song, I wanted to express that God can use anything that you’ve gone through to help other people.
He shows you a newfound strength that you never knew you had. I don’t want to negate the fact that there is hurt and pain. The hurt and pain are real. You learn to live in a new normal.
My prayer for this song is to make music that inspires people. I want my healing to be your healing.
Lyrics
I believe in You
Maker of stars, the sun, and moon
Heaven and Earth, designed by You
Ooh, I believe in You
To my weary heart, broken and bruised
Every part You made brand new Ooh-ooh-ooh, even when fear tries to dim my light
Ooh-ooh-ooh, I won't walk by sight 'Cause I can feel Him rising on the inside
A fire burning wild and bringing me to life
My God is so much more than just a feeling
You are my healing, You are my healing Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing You're right here by my side
If I'm going through hell, I'll be alright
I'm standing on what You promised me
Yes, I believe this is true (I believe)
That every time You'll see it through
I know I'm safe, You never leave, ooh-ooh-ooh-oh-oh Ooh-ooh-ooh, even when fear tries to dim my light
Ooh-ooh-ooh, I won't walk by sight 'Cause I can feel Him rising on the inside
A fire burning wild and bringing me to life
My God is so much more than just a feeling
You are my healing, You are my healing (oh) Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing You are my healing
You are my healing (You are)
You are my healing (my healing)
You are my healing (oh-oh)
You are my healing (my healing)
You are my healing (You are, You are)
You are my healing
You are my healing 'Cause I can feel Him rising on the inside
A fire burning wild and bringing me to life
My God is so much more than just a feeling
You are my healing, You are my healing, oh Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing
Healing me
You're healing, You're healing

Closing Thoughts
If you like female singers that make you think while enjoying their catchy and empowering songs, Blanca’s “The Healing” is for you. It’s a solid upbeat pop song with positive biblical messages—a great alternative to mainstream pop music.
“The Healing” is a song that you can sing with your heart, soul, mind, and strength. It’s a song that deserves an explanation (hence, why it’s a Behind the Song devotional).
The beauty of God’s Word is that it doesn't return void. It provides a constant source of comfort, guidance, and truth. The Word gives a how-to on building a relationship and living for Him.
Whatever your circumstances, the truth is found in God’s Word. You may be going through one of the roughest seasons that you can imagine, but as 1 Corinthians 2:9 points out, “No human mind can conceive all the things that God has prepared for those who love Him”
If you think about the type of faith we’re called to have as believers, it’s described as the faith of a mustard seed: we’re called to "walk by faith, and not by sight." God can do more than anything and everything one can ask or even imagine.
This song is a true celebration of the great biblical truth of Ephesians 3:20: "Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
Blanca’s emotive vocals in this song are raw and heartfelt. You can hear the healing the song gives her. It can also offer you healing and strength. It can provide a supernatural peace that only God’s children can know.
Our natural state is fear, worry, and anxiety. These emotions are all-natural because we’re in a fallen world. But for the saved in Christ, one day, as Revelations 21:4 says, “God will wipe away every tear; there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.”
God doesn't promise to spare you from pain. But you need to trust Him. Trust Him and wait for Him. Wait for Him to orchestrate the plans for your life. You have nothing to bring to God. Maybe you expect something in return, instead of recognizing that nothing compares to the greatness of knowing Jesus. Faith is when you are empty of yourself and are filled with Him and His Holy Spirit.
Let go of your fear, worry, and anxiety and allow the Lord to be your redeemer. He’ll restore you and make you stronger than you can be on your own.
You can find comfort in seeking God's presence and knowing that He is always with you. He to make His home in your hearts. Know that you’re made for God. You were created to find your home in Him.
No matter what your worldview, remember that Earth isn't your permanent home. Freedom from the pain, suffering, and heartache of this fallen world will come when you enter the true rest that can only come from living eternally with Jesus Christ. That's a cause to reflect and sing out: “'Cause I can feel Him rising on the inside/A fire burning wild and bringing me to life/My God is so much more than just a feeling/You are my healing, You are my healing.” Amen to that.
