Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Roy Tosh feat. Quinten Coblentz - "Those Hands" RMG Amplify's Roy Tosh and WEARETHEGOOD's Quinten Coblentz team up for the first new music of 2023. Coblentz tackles the harmonizing duties adding a particular worship-like vibe to the sound. Tosh offers up some of his strongest lyrical efforts as he builds on lyrical content and a mixture of melodies over different tempos. The track speaks to the goodness and strength of Christ available to those who have a relationship with Him. Listen to "Those Hands" on Spotify here.
StefanOtto x Datin - "Cut My Strings"
The Menace Movement (an imprint of God Over Money) collective drops its first single at the start of 2023. The track takes us ole skool hip-hop heads back to the days of boom-bap, beat switches, and truth music. However, it doesn't sound dated. The modern vibes and powerful 808's complete this single as a solid kickoff for the new year. The contents of the track summarize the devil's influence on the people, similar to puppets, if not grounded to the foundation of Christ Jesus. Listen to "Cut My Strings" on Spotify here.
Ecclesiastes, Vol. 2 by BigGucciDame
Independent up-and-coming rapper BigGucciDame started the first day of 2023 blazing by releasing a full-length album on day one. The 12-track offering features Tj Carroll, K-See, JP KILLED IT, Cxldaf, ohsobrkn, and Cavasoul. The concept is centered around one of the books of the New Testament, Ecclesiastes. BGD released the first volume in May last year.
The song titles align with the concept of various seasons and emotional bookmarks of this life. Some personal favorites include "Big God" featuring K-SEE, "You Are Worth It," and "Rich in Christ." However, each track resides on a personal level fit to connect with individuals during any particular situation faced. It also appeals to those who just want to listen to quality hip-hop over powerful production in appreciation of an artist who has grown leaps and bounds over the last few years.
