Some great bands are ready to release new music in 2023, which is great news for Christian rock and metal fans. Long-time rockers like Disciple, Seventh Day Slumber, and Kutless are coming in hot with heavy tunes. New music from Kutless is exciting for many rock fans, as they haven't released a rock-focused album in many years. Seventh Day Slumber continues to release music on its label Rockfest Records. And Disciple continues to kill it as a successful independent band.
Ashes Remain ends its hiatus with the exciting news that it'll release new music in 2023. They always deliver some of the industry's best rock. The metal band Project 86's new record, OMNI, will drop in two parts. OMNI, Part 1 is expected to drop this year. It's a great farewell gift from the legendary band. Also, following two fantastic singles, metalcore band Convictions will bring the heat with new music. Here are the details.
Kutless
New music from Kutless tops the most anticipated list for the year. In 2022, they officially announced new music was coming and that it would return to their rock and roll roots. So far, the band has dropped two new songs: "Words of Fire" and "End of the World", the latter of which features Disciple's lead vocalist Kevin Young.
Seventh Day Slumber
Another influential veteran Christian rock band is gearing up for new music. Fresh from releasing their album, Death By Admiration, in 2022, Seventh Day Slumber is getting ready to drop the title track from their upcoming 14th studio album, Surviving the Wasteland. The single drops on February 10.
Whenever Seventh Day Slumber gets ready to release new music, it is accompanied by great tours with other Christian rockers, new songs, and more. They have dates for the end of January and February announced for the Surviving the Wasteland Tour so far. More dates to come. Hard rock band Breathing Theory and rock vocalist Magdalene Rose, formerly of GFM, are the supporting acts. Reach out to your local churches and venues to get them booked. I promise it'll be a great concert.
Ashes Remain
Ashes Remain is a name that most Christian rock fans know but doesn't hear too often. The band tends to slip under the radar until they release new music. At the beginning of the year, the band announced on Facebook that exciting changes are forthcoming: "We hope the new year brings great things for all of you! What are we working towards in 2023? Well, we’re glad you asked. That would be the next AR record, of course!" They also attached a demo of one of their new songs, too, and it sounds heavy.
The millions of streams on Billboard's Top Christian and Top Heatseekers charts, as well as over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, highlight the band's significant impact on listeners and the music industry. Popular songs include "End of Me," "Keep Me Breathing," and "Rise." We anxiously await more news and music from Ashes Remain this year.
Disciple
Since 1992, the passionate and hard-working band Disciplehas been delivering their southern-influenced hard rock and metal music to the masses through extensive touring across the United States. Their songs fuse themes of faith, hope, and the message of the Gospel into their music. Some favorites include "The Wait is Over," "Radical," and "Reanimate."
The band recently dropped "The Executioner," the first single from their 13th studio record, Skeleton Psalms, which drops on April 28. Their second single, "Promise to Live," comes out on February 1.
Project 86
At the end of 2021, we learned that long-time metal band Project 86 will officially disband after one last record. To finance the album, the band launched a campaign on GoFundMe to raise money to finish their demos. The band received overwhelming support from fans, which led to them concluding their musical journey with their biggest release yet: a double album.
Project 86 recently released "Metatropolis," the album's first single. It signifies that the double album might be their heaviest yet. This song features lead singer Andrew Schwab's signature gritty and powerful vocals coupled with aggressive in-your-face music. Their first album, OMNI, Part 1, drops on February 15. Stay tuned in for OMNI, Part 2.
Convictions
The Christian metal band Convictions has an incredibly explosive fanbase. The band has experienced exceptional growth in their music over the last few years, from the release of their successful EP, I Won't Survive, in 2021 to the release of popular singles such as "Supernova" and "Stigmata" in preparation for new music in 2023.
The metalcore world has taken notice of Convictions, seeing them on curated Spotify playlists, topping content creators' "album of the year" lists, and performing at Christmas Burns Red Festival in Pennsylvania and the Loud and Proud Festival in Germany. All of this has been done, impressively, under independence from a label. Suffice it to say, I'm stoked to hear what the band will drop in 2023, whether it be a killer EP or an awesome full-length album.
