Contemporary Christian artist Matt Redman has been a staple on many of my playlists. Matt is the worship leader who penned "10,000 Reasons" and co-wrote Elevation Worship's "Do It Again" as well as contemporary artist Pat Barrett's "Build My Life." Matt has released his new album, Lamb of God, and we dive into two of his latest singles on his latest record.
"Blessing
Wave after wave
Of Your blessing
Again and again,
Every day Your Mercy new
Oh, what an amazing
God are You"
Upon seeing the song's title, it was uncertain where Matt was heading with it. But he spun the title into a beautiful song that could be easily added to heavy rotation. "Halfway Empty," a song thick with pure praise, shows Matt's closeness to the Lord. And that reflection of personal worship is something I respect.
"My cup overflows, I have all that I need/still Your grace/is not even halfway empty."
At the song's end, Matt encourages listeners to rejoice for God's "grace upon grace" on us. Sometimes, we need a reminder that we were made to worship God. So, harness the natural desire to praise God as you understand that much of His goodness is still yet to come. It's a blessing that He gives "so lavishly" and yet His "grace is not even halfway empty."
"Lamb of God"
"And the most enduring wonder
My soul will ever see
Is the Lamb who conquered Calvary
Oh, the Lamb of God, our victory."
Matt collaborated with Christian artist David Funk in perfect harmony on this song, and the seamless blend of their worship styles astonished me. As proof of this stellar collaboration, I highly suggest you watch the live performance. It's an incredible moment to witness.
In the lyrics I highlighted, there lives the phrase, "the most enduring wonder my soul will ever see." I've been contemplating the spectacles of Earth recently, precisely their superficial quality. They might give me a brief sense of happiness, but it's just an ebb and flow. Nothing remains long enough for me to grasp joy. The only exception to this statement is the love of God. He is my victory that lasts for all eternity; He will never stop cherishing me as one of His children. And that means He feels the same way about you. In a way I could never comprehend, God thought about each of us when He sent the lamb, Jesus, to die for us. It's a sacrifice that will never fade away. The death and resurrection of the lamb of God are truly significant events. He's the only joy to which I can confidently abide forever.
