The Hillsong Church movement has significantly influenced contemporary Christian music, with worship bands such as Hillsong Worship, Young and Free, and Hillsong UNITED. The Church launched UNITED as a youth ministry band in the 1990s and has since gained worldwide success, releasing multiple albums, and winning many awards. Their popular songs, including “Lead Me To The Cross,” “Oceans,” “Touch the Sky,” and “Scandal of Grace,” are sung in church worship services worldwide, spreading the Word of God among Christians globally.

Following their exceptional worship album People (Live), which features standout songs such as “Whole Heart (Hold Me Now),” “Good Grace,” and “Another in the Fire,” the release of Are We There Yet? was celebrated by churches and believers worldwide. The album's expanded edition includes new recordings of “Know You Will,” “On Repeat,” and “Sure Thing.” It has an excellent balance of male and female-led vocals, with songs for corporate worship and personal reflection, and it's loaded with several stirring new worship songs. The album's exciting musical vibe, catchy melodies, and prayerful lyrics reflect unashamed faith in Jesus, making it one of the best worship albums of the year.

During an interview, I spoke with worship leader Jad Gillies about the song “Know You Will.”

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

“Know You Will” is an anthem of hope for uncertain times. Amidst all the madness of a world where it seems like every foundation is shaken, we’re reminded that God’s promises have always been forged through the tensions of trial and fire—the resolve to trust Him wholeheartedly, no matter what may give way around and about us.

Nothing has ever once surprised Him. God alone is our compass through the chaos and disillusion, and the mettle of our faith in Him exists for days like these. This song is about trusting God and knowing He’s in control. Even when times are tough, and everything makes little sense, God gets the glory and always comes through as He promises in His Word and this song.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV): "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness."

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Matthew 17:20 (NIV): He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Romans 8:11 (VOICE): "If the Spirit of the One who resurrected Jesus from the dead lives inside of you, then you can be sure that He who raised Him will cast the light of life into your mortal bodies through the life-giving power of the Spirit residing in you."

Romans 8:28 (NKJV): “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Matthew 11:28 (NIV): "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."

John 10:10 (ESV): "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

Hebrews 6:19 (NLT): "This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary."

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV): "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

1 John 4:18 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."

What is the takeaway message?

In today's world, noise and distractions can easily steer us off course. But this song reminds us to seek suitable sources and focus on what truly matters. When we turn to God’s Word and seek His truth, He’ll strengthen our faith and guide us through difficult times.

We don’t have to live life alone. We have our ever-present God going before us. The early church used songs to remind them of who God was and what He had done in the past. “Know You Will” serves that exact purpose. It’s for anyone who needs to hear that you’re not alone.

The expanded edition of Are We There Yet? embodies recognizing, reimagining, and refocusing on heaven through songs that originate from the understanding that the current phase of our lives is not the most significant aspect of our journey.

We can always find joy in heaven, no matter what we go through on earth. It's hopeful; it feels like the sun going down on a long day and excitement about what tomorrow could bring—even though the sun hasn't come up yet. The album’s journey is set between the sun setting and rising: what’s being left behind and what’s about to come.

Lyrics

When the road runs dead
You can see a way I don't
And it makes no sense
But You say that's what faith is for
When I see a flood
You see a promise
When I see a grave
You see a door
And when I'm at my end
You see where the future starts

I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
You've been good on every promise
From Eden to Zion
Through every dead end
And out of that grave
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will

When the world's on fire
It's not like You don't have a plan
And when the earth gives way
On this Rock, Your church will stand
And nothing has ever once surprised You
Nothing has ever made You flinch
And when it all shakes out
The gates of Hell don't stand a chance

I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
You've been good on every promise
From Eden to Zion
Through every dead end
And out of that grave
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will

You pulled my heart from Egypt
You carved a road through sea
From all our chains to endless praise
The story ends in You
And when we cross that Jordan
Look back at where we've been
From all our chains to endless praise
The story ends in You

I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
You've been good on every promise
From Eden to Zion
Through every dead end
And out of that grave
I don't know how You make a way
But I know You will
I know You will

Closing Thoughts

“Know You Will” reminds us that our worship of God shouldn’t be based on our circumstances but on who God is. He included the Book of Job in the Bible as a reminder of how He wants us to handle trials.

God tells us that, as sinners, we all fall short. We must serve Him because of who He is, not what He does for us. He doesn't guarantee that we won't experience pain, but it's essential to have faith in Him. So, trust Him, be patient, and allow Him to guide and direct our lives.

Are we letting God have control? We either let Him have control or not. There’s no middle ground. Jesus gave His life for us. He believed in God's purpose. We, as believers, are forever grateful that Jesus relied on God's will.

This song serves as a reminder that there is a reason for everything under heaven. Proverbs 3:5-6 says to trust in God and lean not on our own understanding. So, let’s be united in our struggles, spiritual warfare, and desire for truth and relationship.

"Know You Will" is poignant and powerful with earnest, worshipful lyrics. It’s a reminder that we aren’t meant for this world but to live with God eternally in heaven. Commit your life to Jesus and offer Him your heart and life as you sing along with this great song. The Lord wants you to spend time with Him every day.

We have nothing to bring to our battles except the Lord. When we kneel before Him like Job, raising our empty hands, we are closest to God. Under our strength, many mountains we face will seem impossible, but with God, all things are possible. As we face this worldwide coronavirus pandemic together, this song offers words of faith for believers: “I don't know how You make a way/But I know You will.”

What a gift and promise to know, “You pulled my heart from Egypt/You carved a road through sea/From all our chains to endless praise/The story ends in You/And when we cross that Jordan/Look back at where we've been/From all our chains to endless praise/The story ends in You.” That's worthy of all our praise.

Romans 8:28 says to live each day knowing that despite circumstances, God has a plan for "those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.” Let everyone hear this song. It puts God's Word in the mouths of believers, reminding them of the truth of God's promises. It also puts truth in the ears of those who have yet to hear it.

The song's message prompts listeners to reflect on their doubts and encourages them to trust in Jesus and the power of His resurrection. It reminds us that He has conquered death and fear. No matter where you are in your walk with Jesus, let this song be a salvation message that helps you not forget that Jesus indeed came to die and rose to set you free.

Make the song’s lyrics your prayer, “You've been good on every promise/From Eden to Zion/Through every dead end/And out of that grave/I don't know how You make a way/But I know You will/I know You will.” Amen to that.
