Touring is hard, and it's less glamorous than people may think. There are pros and cons to touring and traveling around the country. One of the cons is that touring typically separates families. But, some families stay together as they travel the world on a tour bus.
As Valentine's Day approaches, we highlight husband-and-wife duos who are touring and making music together. While the music industry is far from easy, these couples have moved together through the highs and lows of music-making. We honor and respect each couple on this list and admire their passion for one another and the music they create.
Caleb and Kelsey
Husband-and-wife duo Caleb and Kelsey began their love story in 2012 when they met in college. After they married, they began releasing music in 2018 with the release of their album Worship. Known for their uplifting worship covers, the duo continually puts their own spin on previously released songs. On their debut album, they created medleys by combining songs like "10,000 Reasons" and "What a Beautiful Name," among others.
Since their debut album, they've continued covering worship songs while dabbling in genres like pop and country. Their latest song, "Bigger Houses," is a Dan + Shay cover, while "Never Grow Up" is Caleb and Kelsey's take on the classic Taylor Swift song. Regardless of your genre preference, Caleb and Kelsey have covered a song you'll love.
The Cashmans
Musicians Jonathan and Britney Cashman said their vows in 2006, and they dove headfirst into music. The duo started by leading worship at their local church. Then, in 2014, the couple felt God calling them to something bigger. Thus, they decided to expand their ministry and travel to churches around the United States. The duo hit the road together. And since then, they've been bringing the life-changing message of Jesus to people around the country. They've traveled with their little girl, Everly, and now their newest little one, Shiloh, can join the adventure.
Chase & Co.
In 2022, Christian pop band I Am They announced they would disband after 14 years together. The announcement was heartbreaking to many fans. But the good news was that the band members would not quit music entirely. Shortly after I Am They disbanded, Chase & Co. came on the scene with their song "When I See Your Glory."
Chase & Co. is I Am They's former vocalist and guitarist Brandon Chase and his wife, Theresa. The couple married only three years ago, and they've already had the chance to travel and make music together. Their latest single, "Jireh," covers the hit Maverick City Music song. And it excites me to see what's next for this young couple.
John & Korey Cooper
John and Korey Cooper are the iconic husband-wife duo. They're the masterminds behind the famous rock band Skillet and are very familiar with touring together. The couple married one year after releasing Skillet's 1996 self-titled debut album. John and Korey have balanced the complexities of life, music, and touring for more than 25 years. It must be a challenge, but John and Korey excel at managing it all.
Drakeford
Married couple Drakeford and Lucy-Jayne Lanier have a unique story. Drakeford is from the U.S., and Lucy-Jayne is from the U.K. But the couple met in the small country of Kyrgyzstan in 2011. Soon after, they started making music and touring together. They moved back to the U.S., exchanged vows, and continued making music together. They have kept up and released five full-length records so far, including their recent release, Wayward & Home (Part II).
Rend Collective
You might not think of Rend Collective as a husband-and-wife band, but they certainly are. Gareth Gilkeson, the band's drummer, is married to Rend Collective's keyboardist, Ali. Hailing from Northern Ireland, the band has been together since 2007. Gareth and Ali have been integral members of Rend Collective through all the band's changes.
Since the band formed, Gareth and Ali have had three kids. Inspired by their children, the band created Rend Co Kids in 2019 and released their full-length children's album, Sparkle. Pop. Rampage. that same year. People may think that having kids hinders making music, but for Gareth and Ali, their kids have become their inspiration.
Love & The Outcome
I saw Canadian contemporary couple Love & The Outcome in concert years ago at Winter Jam. They've always been my go-to example of a husband-wife duo making music together. Jodi and Chris Rademaker of Love & The Outcome are pros at touring as a family. In 2016, the couple welcomed their first baby, Milo--but that didn't stop them from touring. With their baby Milo, they continued to travel and play music. In 2017, Jodi gave birth to their second child, Ziggy. Despite having a growing family, they have created music and tours across the U.S. and Canada. They're basically "super parents," making for a fantastic duo.
Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes
Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes are another iconic duo. The couple met at Gateway Church in Dallas, Texas, and married in 2014. On the red carpet at the 2015 Dove Awards, Kari shared that she and Cody were expecting their first child. They had their second child in 2019. Although touring sometimes separates them, the duo has also frequently toured together.
CLINE
CLINE is a contemporary family band comprising Garrett Cline, his wife Jacquelyn, and his brother Darrick. CLINE started during the pandemic when it was hard for artists to go out on the road. But, the family are no strangers to touring. Garrett and Darrick are also members of country artist Dylan Scott's band. Now, Garrett can travel with his wife Jacquelyn when they go on the road as CLINE.
