“At The Cross” is hip-hop artist Trip Lee’s story about how his life changed for the better when he committed to Jesus and encouraged others to do the same. Trip discusses how he realized that the things he used to live for, such as material possessions and unhealthy romantic relationships, are ultimately unfulfilling. He discovered that living for Jesus is the right way to live and the most satisfying and fulfilling way to live.
Living for the things of this world instead of for Jesus leaves us feeling empty and unfulfilled. Jesus advises us to avoid chasing after things that may bring negative consequences. Putting faith in Jesus means changing directions because you trust in His death on the cross to save you from your sins (disobedience to God). As Jesus said in Luke 9:23, being His follower means you’re no longer living for sin and for yourself; you’re following Jesus with your life moving forward and living for Him.
Living for Jesus isn’t something we must do in our strength and ability. We have a role to play, but He teaches us His way as we read His Word and the Bible and empowers us to grow and change through His Holy Spirit working in our hearts. As He does that transforming work in us, we get to tell others they can know Jesus and experience life change, too, just like Trip Lee does through this song.
Galatians 2:20 (NLT): “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So, I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 6:14 (NLT): “As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.”
Lyrics
Please don’t mind my pivot, turned and let Him steer it Got His will all in my lyrics, bro, it’s on, said it’s on I’ve been privileged to visit places, no need for specifics I’m done, I wouldn’t miss it, take me home, take me home Let me sit there at the feet of the one who did defeat Infantries of enemies, fell like dominoes, dominoes Flood Him ’til He’s beat, but He made rivers retreat He’s got back up on His feet a long time ago, time ago I know there’s so many places people really wanna be I know there’s some dope locations people really wanna see But the only place I ever really need in front of me Is that ugly wood that’s beautiful if you look underneath Big steppers, big set reppers Still gotta bow to the one who pulled levers All the mess we’ve made is giant, but it can’t measure Up to where my sin got severed At the cross Where I left my flaw and my goal Lose my whole, and I gave up all control, left it at the cross If you lookin’ for my shame and my gain And my stains, you’ll find none of it remains, left it at the cross Left ’em at the cross, left ’em at the cross (oh, oh) Left ’em at the cross, at the cross (oh) If you lookin’ for my shame and my gain And my stains, you’ll find none of it remains at the cross
