"Walk With Jesus" by Consumed By Fire reminds us that the decision to place our faith in Jesus for salvation is also a decision to turn from living for sin and self and to follow Him daily. Choosing to become a Christian is not just placing a casual belief in Jesus and never thinking about it again. Jesus said those who want to be His follower must take up their cross daily and follow Him. Being a follower of Jesus means we walk with Him and follow His ways everyday as He leads us and empowers us. And His way is the best way to live. As the lyrics say, walking with Jesus means we live the way He says to live and do what He says to do. We love the way He loves. We allow Him to lead us. Walking with Jesus means we get to experience Him bringing restoration and to the broken places of our lives and much more.
Matthew 11:28-30 is a popular Bible passage: "Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.'" (NLT)
We often focus on the part of the verse that talks about Jesus giving us rest, and that's true. But Jesus also invites us into something profound in this passage. When he says "take my yoke upon you and let me teach you." He borrows a picture from agriculture of yoking two oxen together so they would move together at the same pace as they plowed a field. Jesus is inviting us to join ourselves to Him and walk with Him. He's inviting us to let Him teach us how to live according to His way, become more like Him, lift our burdens, and bring true rest to our lives. There's life transformation and freedom when we walk with Jesus.
Luke 9:23 (NLT): "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me."
Lyrics
So many people tryna fill a void inside
So many questions, asking how, asking why
I might not have all the answers, but I've tasted and I've seen
There's a better path with Jesus, there's no going back for me
I'm gonna live the way He says to live
Do what He says to do
You can choose whatever road you choose
But I'm gonna love the way He says to love
Trust the way He says to trust
This world alone will never be enough
So I'm gonna walk with Jesus
I'm gonna walk, I'm gonna walk
I'm gonna walk with Jesus
I'm gonna walk with Jesus
(I'm gonna walk, I'm gonna walk)
